watching another one of our almost weekly beatings against Melbourne Victory I caught a glimpse of Paul okon in the dugout and he had the look of a resigned man which had a wtf did I sign up for look on his face. In all honesty I don't see a great deal of improvement on the teams he put out and the slop that the previous two coaches conjured up. I have no doubt of okons ambition to make it as a successful coach however I think he has chosen the wrong venue to kickstart his career. I can see him being part of our annual mass exodus at the end of the season and trying to get with an ambitious club who harbours a winning mentality and looks beyond the win, lose or draw gimmick.
I hope I'm proved very wrong but I cant see way up in the near or distant future with the powers that be at the helm.

He has the look of someone who has miscalculated and driven his career canoe up shit creek - then lost his paddle.

Continue to fail at CCM and he will have nowhere to go - nothing is getting better is it

Most certainly is not getting better, I wouldn't mind knowing who else applied for the gig when wolmsley got the arse. Did the board go down the cheap road as usual ?

Way too early for this. Okon needs his chance to turn over players when the bulk are out of contract end of season and develop his own squad

Okon is clearly a good coach. The signs are everywhere except where I'll give you that it matters most. We are missing three experienced starting players and ideally a couple of higher calibre and experienced squaddies. Until that changes we will likely lose most games to a handful of individual errors. Like tonight. It's a player quality issue. Not a coaching one. I'm sure he's feeling the pain, but I don't see Okon giving up so easily and the club (and fans for that matter) would be beyond stupid to give up on him - he's light years ahead of Moss and TW.

As to a way up for the future... you should listen to the Coast football ramble podcast to gain some more in depth understanding of the club and the vision. I think it's genuinely the opposite of what you fear, we're just suffering in this painful transition period, but if we don't strengthen asap I'd say its pretty obviously going to cost a club whose fans are sick of paying money to watch their team repeatedly lose.

Brian Clough would struggle with our budget. It's not on Okon.
I just hope we spend a bit in January.

LOL at anyone thinking this is on Okon.

With the cattle he had at the start of the season he was able to develop a relatively young team with some older heads into something *somewhat* competitive, and by this time last month we were looking fairly good - we'd beaten Adelaide who despite not winning actually had been okay, and then scalped Perth at home.

There has been enough in our results to show a marked improvement in the side on last season but there's still a long way to go.

Anyone who expected instant results or a "good" season this year when PO inherited a team not of his choosing (aside from Galloway) is being foolish.

The only thing ticking is the time for some players at CCM.

For once it will be the players who go not the coach

Quite possibly, both Okon and Monty have had articles criticising the level of mistakes being made which is unusual for us we normally dont do that.

There are a bunch of players who have 15 matches in which to salvage a career as a professional

As well as Roy's comments. While he may have spoken it as just a lone players opinion, no way his sentiments are happening in a vacuum. And he's a part of the senior leadership group with Monty.

Okon is refusing to blame young players for doing what young players typically do - because he's good coach. But seems clear they're all on the same page. Squad balance is wrong even if all the juniors were exceptionally talented, which they're not. Of the youngsters, Trent, Izzo, Pain, Roux, Galloway are safe. That's already a good chunk of youth in the squad.

I'd personally place Berry next, then I'd back Rose - but it's based on what he's shown last season not this one. And we don't need or ideally want two such young players as back ups in this position. McGing and Ascroft have improved markedly but I'd be surprised if they both get another contract if they don't come home with a wet sail. that said, I'm sure it's against the general consensus, but I actually wouIdn't be unhappy if we retained them thinking longer term. I just want another experienced CB that they can challenge and learn under signed first. I would have had Posc right up there, but at 26, it's very hard to see him getting a contract on the back of this nightmare run - so he'll be fighting for a contract this period ahead if he even gets a chance.

Neil should be dropped now as far as I'm concerned. Bingham, though I don't dislike him, I expect to be cut. Fletcher cut. McDonald cut. Adelson....mmmm... I'm just not sure we can afford to stick buy him in this cut throat period, so hard to keep bouncing back, he's missing a lot of critical development time, and we have so much youth, so the pragmatist in me says cut, but the optimist who loves developing young players says just maybe.

Appiah... 24... as a mid fielder i think cut, but I actually really like Big Al's idea to convert him to an RB. CCM's Valencia. You can see it. And don't call me racist. Powell I expect will lose his position in midfield to a new signing and then be our second striker pushing Roy. Happy with this. Monty Roy keep. Ivan cut now that Izzo has found his feet. Only leaves Fab that I'm unsure of what Okon will do - think he's a player playing for his future. We could do worse than to keep Faty and Tav for another year imo - but at their respective ages Okon may well look elsewhere.

So I reckon it's as many as 14 who will be cut - but at least half of those I think have a fighting chance of being re signed. Either way, it's going to be a big clean out and a very important back end of the season for the players professionally.

Wonderful post FP. If Victory don't renew him I think it would be great to have Alistair Bray back. He is still young in goalkeeping terms and would really push Izzo. Even if his injury woes continue we have a more than capable Adam Pearce coming through the ranks as well.

Excellent summation.

Ever thought of applying for a position of director of football.

I will happily write you a reference.
