ccmfans.net is the Central Coast Mariners fan community, and was formed in 2004, so basically the beginning of time for the Mariners. Things have changed a lot over the years, but one thing has remained constant and that is our love of the Mariners. People come and go, some like to post a lot and others just like to read. It's up to you how you participate in the community!

If you want to get rid of this message, simply click on Join Now or head over to https://www.ccmfans.net/community/register/ to join the community! It only takes a few minutes, and joining will let you post your thoughts and opinions on all things Mariners, Football, and whatever else pops into your mind. If posting is not your thing, you can interact in other ways, including voting on polls, and unlock options only available to community members.

ccmfans.net is not only for Mariners fans either. Most of us are bonded by our support for the Mariners, but if you are a fan of another club (except the Scum, come on, we need some standards), feel free to join and get into some banter.

Things I don`t get

I thought this could be a fun topic after reading Dibo`s post & with all due respect to his numbering system:-

Things I don`t get no.5225

Why do the sprinklers come on just before kickoff?

No 5226
Why does the team warm up for 30mins prior to a game but the subs only need 5 mins warm-up before they go on?

The sprinklers go on so the ball skids on the surface.

Subs warm up for quite a while. They'll be warming up for 20 or so before coming on, mainly doing little shuttles and stretches.

 What??

Haven't seen it yet, but I have it recorded (will post afterwards)

Is he talking Aussies playing direct because Asians can't defend headers or some such??
Or is he talking up long ball/direct play undoubtedly because his pet hate the Mariners are playing beautiful on the deck football?

Occasionally I agree with what he has to say. Sure. But he is a conceited egotistical ass the rest of the time.

On topic.

Why do professional football players these days, where injury is surely the bain of your existance, wear such ludicrously small shin pads??

Bloody hell. :piralaugh:

Any balanced football person knows long ball has its time place and uses...
But Foster has forfeited all right to claim any such.
What an unbeliavable hypocrite he is.

Oh, and

Why would Tinkler want an NRL and a A-league Team. Surely everyone will see that his priority will lie with the NRL.

shared costs (i.e. media people, membership, marketing, medical and sports science etc.), better buying and bargaining power with kit suppliers, the stadium, etc.

you could tee up a shared sponsorship deal that gives the sponsor year-round exposure too. it becomes a 'sporting newcastle' model.

tbh - when the bears come back it'd make a lot of sense if they partnered with the mariners on a lot of that stuff.

When some Fox commentators talk about a player "bombing on" what the fark are they on about and where the hell does that come from?

Like a dive bomber - going in for a risky quick-fire raid causing havoc and destruction. or somesuch.

I use the term myself, I guess it has just become lodged in the subconscious.

Excuse my ignorance, I don't have a long tradition with football, but it has always seemed strange to me that their is a completely different expectation and usually style of play when playing away.

This is not apparent in any other sport that I can think of, not rugby, League or even cricket for that matter.

There is a belief, not always held up by fact, that in playing away from home the teams suffers certain disadvantages:
Travel (a biggy in the HAL), unfamilar pitch, hostile fans, hostile fans affected officials, and so on.
Therefore to balance the disadvantages the away team plays, say more defensive, plays on the counter attack, etc.

Others may care to contribute

So couldn`t the ball skidding make it more difficult to control the ball thus causing problems for us as well as the opposition?
