Things have changed a lot over the years, but one thing has remained constant and that is our love of the Mariners. People come and go, some like to post a lot and others just like to read. It's up to you how you participate in the community!

If posting is not your thing, you can interact in other ways, including voting on polls, and unlock options only available to community members.

ccmfans.net is not only for Mariners fans either. Most of us are bonded by our support for the Mariners, but if you are a fan of another club (except the Scum, come on, we need some standards), feel free to join and get into some banter.

Perhaps it is the quality of players around them but this shows young players can make a big difference http://www.smh.com.au/news/sport/football/a-league/youngsters-give-their-careers-a-super-lig-up/2009/05/02/1240982459006.html?page=fullpage#contentSwap1 from the smh today it discusses Bruce Djite, James Troisi and Mile Jedinak , playing for Genclerbirligi and questions why the A-League does not have many young players in the first sides.

Going back I can recall Kool playing for Australia at 17 & Dukes playing for the Melbourne Knights at 15 in the old NSL..I think Owen played for England at 18 .. Rooney at Man U.

The Roar have invested in young players .. but they appear to be as I see it the only club that do.

It's disgraceful imo.

There is no excuse in this country for not experimenting with kids. There is no pressure of relegation here like there is all over the world.

The problem with a small league with a ridiculous finals series......sorry I mean post season comp.......is that coaches are under pressure to make finals so results are everything.

Next season teams around 7th to 10th in a ten team league are going to be in with a shot at "finals" for most of the season. If it was a proper league season without this farce the middle tier teams would be playing with the pressure off and be more likely to experiment with kids.

Imo.

I am a big believer in youth.

But the problem we have in the A-League is that it's become a "league of cliches"- clubs will go after past-it superstars or Brazilians nobody's ever heard of, when going after players like Miller, Hernandez and blooding in youngsters is the sensible thing to do.

Man management of the youngsters is also vital- and you wonder about GVE's ability to do that considering the whole Pinto thing vs Adelaide.

Perths yoof side had some exceptional players, good move IMHO as their senior contracts will be quite reasonable allowing the club to pay more for their experienced players.

We lost a year (maybe 2) with our yoof recruitment last year and it will hurt us (sadly)
