Qantas Socceroos to Face Paraguay at Sydney Football Stadium Thursday, 5 August 2010 Sydney Thursday 5 August 2010

FFA Chief Executive Officer Ben Buckley said that this match was ideal opportunity for Australian fans to see the Qantas Socceroos in action.

“This is a great opportunity to be part of the official welcome home for the Qantas Socceroos after the FIFA World Cup in South Africa,” Buckley said.

“It will be the only time the national team will play in Australia for the rest of this year so I urge all Socceroos fans to get in early and get their tickets so they are not disappointed.

“It should be a fantastic match as Paraguay is a top quality opponent as shown by the fact the team reached the quarter finals of the FIFA World Cup before losing to eventual winners Spain.

“This exciting clash will give the Qantas Socceroos the chance to benchmark themselves against first class opposition as they prepare for the AFC Asian Cup in Qatar in January and most likely with a new coach at the helm,” concluded Buckley.

The Qantas Socceroos have previously faced Paraguay on four occasions; a three match series in 2000 in Sydney, Brisbane and Melbourne and one match in 2006 in Brisbane, with the Qantas Socceroos holding the advantage with one win and three draws.

This will be the second time that the Qantas Socceroos will meet Paraguay at the Sydney Football Stadium having previously met at the same venue on the 9th June 2000 when they played out a nil-all draw.

The Qantas Socceroos are also scheduled to play Slovenia in Ljubljana 11th August, Switzerland in St Gallen on 3rd September and Poland in Krakow on 7th September.

All Qantas Socceroo matches will be broadcast Live and Exclusive on FOX SPORTS.

Ticketing details for the match will be announced shortly.

For the first time, members of the Football Family will not only have a priority ticket purchasing period, but will also receive a 10% discount on tickets.

To qualify for this discount, fans must sign-up to the Football Family before 9th August at www.myfootball.com.au
