Things have changed a lot over the years, but one thing has remained constant and that is our love of the Mariners. People come and go, some like to post a lot and others just like to read. It's up to you how you participate in the community!

If posting is not your thing, you can interact in other ways, including voting on polls, and unlock options only available to community members.

ccmfans.net is not only for Mariners fans either. Most of us are bonded by our support for the Mariners, but if you are a fan of another club (except the Scum, come on, we need some standards), feel free to join and get into some banter.

Thread for rumours, speculation etc about the next national manager.

Vidmar has been announced as the new Assistant Manager and there are rumours that Zola will be the next head coach.

zofz.. Rafa, you are very fat, did you eat my sandwiches?

Aaaaaaaanyway, Zola has been apparently shopping for property in Sydney.

Also, another former chav - Ruud Guillt, has expressed his interest:

I'd take him before Zola.

Marco van Basten, anyone?

Tip in the SMH is a Breton coach Paul Le Guen, currently coaching Cameroon in South Africa.

Wiki helps with:

During his playing career, Le Guen played at Stade Brest for six years, Nantes Atlantique for two years, before leaving Brittany for Paris St. Germain where he played for seven years (with 478 appearances and a Cup Winners' Cup medal in 1996).

At international level he played 17 times for France due to injuries and he was part of the team which lost out on a trip to the World Cup in 1994, along with Eric Cantona and David Ginola. He ended his playing career by taking part in a friendly where his home region of Brittany faced Cameroon on 21 May 1998.

Clubs coaching - Stade Rennes, Rangers FC, Lyon, Paris St Germain

Le Guen,

Top job with Cameroon mate. V impressive.

Still, no Pim is a big plus in itself.

zola did well with Italian U23 and if he was our coach the vendetta against us by Italians might end

Julia Gillard is actually Pim in disguise.

Well as a Tardball lover she wont be doing our game any favours - like Pim, she probably cant stand the A League either

This bloke is a Dud.  someone mentioned Sven on another site....please NOOOOO.

Van Basten would be good but i'd also be happy if we got off the Dutch trip the FFA seam to think is the only way to go.

Frank Rijkaard, Johan Neeskens, they would suit us beautifully and they play attacking football, Le Guen would be useless, please don't hire him!

In the above article the three questions asked by the author about our national coach were:-

1. Is it a high-profile celebrity who will give the game priceless publicity?

2. Is it a top coach who will make the Socceroos a strong side for two or three years and then nick off when his contract is up?

3. Or is it a recognised coach who is prepared for the long haul to groom the next generation of Socceroos?

My belief is that if we want to make a quantum leap the answer to all should be yes.

1) If we want to be on the back page regularly we need a coach who has celebrity.

2) Australians and the media are always after a competitive side.

3)We need to concentrate on youth.

The FFA have also said they want someone to be based largely in Australia.

Why not Johan Cruyff with Neeskens assisting him. He has been an immensely well respected coach for both Ajax and Barcelona as well as being one the world's greatest players. His coaching style promotes attacking football and the development of youth. While he has not offically coached for a number of years until his recent Catalan 'national' gig he has been a consultant at both Ajax and Barcelona over that time and is seen by many as the philosopher behind Barcelona.

Given his ties to these clubs (even on an informal basis) and his commitments with the Johan Cruyff Institute it is unlikely that he could spend the majority of time in Australia. This is where Neeskens comes in. Neeskens has played with Cruyff and worked alongside him at Barcelona - and said previously he would be happy to move to Australia. Given time, and once the systems and structures were in place then Neeskens could take over as National manager.

I know this is fanciful thinking. However, I think Cruyff is one of the very few that fit the criteria that was set in the article.

This is a time when we can really make great strides in our game within Australia and the chance to make such a visionary choice should not be lost.
