bummer, can we expect the A-League to continue much longer if another team pulls out of the league whomever that is..

Propping up Newcastle and Building a new team from the ground up before the next season and the chance of another team pulling out and requiring to be propped up also to keep the league at 10 teams will surely cripple the FFA right? ???

Unfortunately the FFA do not speak for the owners as we well know.Interesting times ahead! I wonder when CCM are on their last breath whether the Russians will swoop in and pick the whole lot up for next to nothing?

They have been 'surprised' a lot lately! I think they said they didn't know about Newcastle handing theirs back until just before the press conference.

@CCMariners @Paul_Govind @Glenn_Osborne Our Chairman, Mr Peter Turnbull, wishes to state: "No, we are not handing our license back." #ALeague

In fact, tomorrow we will be announcing the re-signing of another of our #ALeague Premiership winning squad for the 2012/13 season...

Turnbull says no - http://theworldgame.sbs.com.au/central-coast-mariners/news/1103117/The-Mariners-won-t-hand-back-licence

Central Coast Mariners chairman Peter Turnbull was forced to deny strong speculation that he is prepared to hand back his A-League licence.

Turnbull's stance comes after the Gosford-based club's failure so far to sell a 50 per cent stake of the club to a Russian consortium.

The Mariners are in serious financial strife and a successful takeover from the group that has strong links with Russian giant Spartak Moscow is seen as the only way to safeguard the club's immediate and long-term future.

However, the Russian group's procrastination in sealing a deal is seen in some quarters as a sign that it is not interested anymore in buying into the A-League.

This has led to mounting speculation that the deal is dead and the club's owner is frustrated and ready to hand back his licence to Football Federation Australia.

Advertising guru John Singleton is also believed to be interested in buying a stake in the club.

But Turnbull, a Sydney-based property developer who claims he has invested $6 million in the club, flatly denied that the Russians have pulled out of the deal and his club was taking this course of action that comes in the wake of the licence drama surrounding Newcastle Jets and Gold Coast United.

"If your query is about handing back the licence... the answer is a definite no, I'm not handing it back," Turnbull said, when asked for comments on the Mariners' plight.

"And the Russians have definitely not pulled out of the deal. I am in daily contact with them."

Despite the Mariners' success on the field of play, the club has been struggling to stay afloat all season, during which it was late with payments to its players and coaches.

Adding to the uncertainty, a cloud still hovers above head coach Graham Arnold's position at the Mariners.

Arnold, who took the club to a grand final and the Premiers' Plate in successive seasons since joining the club in 2010, has been touted as the next Sydney FC coach ever since the Sky Blues announced early this year that it was parting company with championship-winner Vitezslav Lavicka.

The current state of affairs in Gosford might encourage Arnold to seek greener pastures and accept Sydney's overtures, with Sky Blues Acting CEO Stefan Kamasz recently saying the club could make an announcement in the next fortnight.

I'd take a new scarf every year with the year on it... I have a nice little collection of scarves from my other team that plays in that code that should not be mentioned ;)

Premiers plate replica keyring sounds really tacky and really cool at the same time... lol.
