Things have changed a lot over the years, but one thing has remained constant and that is our love of the Mariners. People come and go, some like to post a lot and others just like to read. ccmfans.net is not only for Mariners fans either. Most of us are bonded by our support for the Mariners, but if you are a fan of another club (except the Scum, come on, we need some standards), feel free to join and get into some banter.

Round 21

It's here, well almost. So here goes (the other games):

Melbourne Victory v Wellington Phoenix
The combatants on Sunday will keep their eyes on this game on Friday night. It's win or nothing for Wellington and even a win won't be enough if the Mariners get at least a draw (due to a superior GD).

Melbourne simply have to win by a goals more than Adelaide United would, or just win and hope Adelaide United and Queensland both slip. If it comes down to GD, they lose out but if it comes down to GS they would win by far.

Queensland Roar v Perth Glory
Queensland will be waiting to pounce if Melbourne, Adelaide or both slip up. They'll need to win by at least two goals and hope the other two games end in draws or losses for the top two sides.

Sydney FC v Newcastle Jets
Dead rubber games, but farewells for Fyfe, Middleby and Adam Griffiths respectively. Should be Milligan's first appearance at the SFS since leaving Sydney.

you know what, i'd love to see the roar win the plate. going there for the GF (yeah yeah, not gonna happen) would be an awesome trip and a huge shot in the arm for the two new clubs.

aside from that, i'd like to see welly do their bit and beat melbourne. we should have to win a pressure game to get in. i don't want to see us take one point from the last three weeks going to the finals.

and obviously i'd love to see us pump the reds to seal our spot. we'd then likely have a semi against them with us having not lost to them this year, and i reckon we'd be a good shot to take them home and away. we'd then go to either melbourne or queensland for what's essentially grand final mark 1, and then to the other for grand final mark 2.

we're at our best with backs to the wall, i'd like to see us go through the hard way.

This.

And it will kick our arses into gear for the finals (hopefully).  We've been stagnating for far too long......

:goodpost:

I'd also like to see them get there. Another new team to Asia and probably the best football ground in Australia for the GF if they win the major semi.

Added advantage to us is while we have a good record against Adelaide this year I can't see us beating either Melb or QLD over two legs. In one-off games anything is possible.

Expect Adelaide United to go all out to win on Sunday now.
And the Mariners not to care. Lawrie's now planning for the Roar. This weekend's game is now just a necessity.

Or maybe not. The Roar are our bogey team. We are Adelaide's. Maybe we want to play Adelaide first up in the finals and to do that, if the Roar win, we must beat Adelaide this weekend.

Hope this comes true

Prediction: care-free Mariners to beat Adelaide with a second string team. Also, you are all forgetting Blue Tongue is the biggest fortress in the league. Bring on Sunday.

A fortress where Sydney and Queensland have won this season? :-\

Adelaide United should be the most beatable of the top 3 because of their poor away record, recent indifferent performances and some poor tactical decisions. Their defence is the best in the league, though, and the Mariners' strikers will have to work hard to break that down.

Agreed, it's barely a fortress.

Would be best for us to play Adelaide IMO , however i'd prefer to go up to Brisbane for the away leg of 3v4

:piralaugh: more than a palisade, possibly a motte and bailey but definitely not a fortress.  :piralaugh:
