Has anyone seen a related news article or heard anything?

Here is one source

I wasn't aware of the Roar's Dutch heritage. The name, the colours... it all makes sense now (a bit slow on the uptake me). I'm not a fan of ethnic links with clubs as it is a pandoras box awaiting to be opened, so I'll be glad to see it change.

Also, seeing the financial difficulties the Reds and the Roar are in, it makes me glad that, despite all the whinging and bleating on this forum, we have been prudent with throwing around the cash (Club Tugg aside)

Can we have Taj and can they start with a 10 point deduction next season please?

I'd add Zullo, Timmy Oar and Nichols from Roar.

Funny in the SMH article how they mentioned the FFA re negotiating the Suncorp Stadium agreement. The way it was written, it was inferring that the FFA would use leverage of future Socceroos games at the stadium to get a better deal.

I certainly hope that Buckley dusts off his shotgun and places it firmly to the heads of those monkeys running Suncorp, and drives a much better deal for the new Roar.

It is a shame that Con up at Newcastle is either too dumb or too pigheaded not to see the writing on the wall for his Jets and approach the FFA too.

Roar and adelaide both saying it is full of shit.
Apparently name change is going to happen just before the draw is released next month.
FFA would be using roos games as leverage.
FFA is helping with costs and to lure investors to both clubs.

I think the Roar & AU are a WIP and backers will be found the hard part for Hal will be to survive until the next media deal and continue to grow.

Growth has been enormous to date out of the ashes of 2003 when we could not afford the air fares to bring the national team home. Corrupt, inept, self interest ruling, with the president of Soccer Australia & the NSL banned from holding office by ASIC Broke financially, morally, with no political allies, little to no main stream support in fact set themselves up for attack by other codes, and the media in general.

But the growth from an income of about 3.2 million in 2003 to over 85 million last year, with a 12 team domestic competition a womens league, a youth league, 9 national teams, an Australian youth development program in place, a national talent identification program in place. The future with an FA cup style competition getting closer with selected state league teams

A new media deal is essential .. but still four years out. holding all this together on a 17 million per year media deal is the challenge On top of this put a management team in place to bid for the 2015 Asian cup, and 2022 WC

But if they can . imagine after the media deal say 9 years out then Football will finally be accepted as a mainstream sport. Just hope Obie One can hold on another 5 or 6 years for without Obie I think the challenge is beyond most

Midfielder, why do you call Frank Lowy AC Obie one? And is it four years until tv right  negotiations? I thought it was closer.

I have nick names for many ... Obie One was the person in Star Wars in the first movie released who was the wise old man who used the power of the force to fight the evil Sift (other codes) and he developed or restarted the Jedi ... and they did battle with the dark side (the Australian media) and in the end won...

Also as a young man like Obie One Frank Lowy had a great deal to do with Football ... left.... in a time when the OLD Soccer took over ... he came back and put the pride back in the Jedi and they rose to power again ....  just like football is ...

Sad I know but honest ..

The media deal was for 7 years signed in Hal 2... meaning having just finished Hal 4 it runs until Hal 8... i.e. 4 years, unless there are some revision clauses in the contract because the number of teams or viewing audiences...

BTW I think the next media will be huge if you analyses last night game... My understanding of pay TV in Australia is as follows just over 1.1 million locations (boxs) in Australia 728, 000 of which have the sports channels. (the 1.1 million & 728K is what I am told are near figures some time in 2008)

So the 508, 000 peak figure or 431, 000 average needs to needs measured against the 728, 000 who actually have sport. Further many who follow football come from lower income levels and dont have pay TV meaning when the sums are done its as follows

Australian population assume similar % wont watch sport i.e. (1, 100, 000 - 728, 000) / by 1, 100, 000 or 34%. Therefore remove 34% from 22 million which is 7.5 million.

At this stage we have a potential audience of 22 - 7.5 or 14.5 million.. If we assume the same viewing pattern 431, 000 / 728, 000 or 59%.

14.5 million at 59% is a FTA audience of at least 8.6 million WOW by say 6 times a year bring on the next media deal.

Also, getting to the WC brings in money and sponsors to keep the game going.

The individuals who back HAL clubs are not immune to the GFC (Isnt Adelaides owner a builder??) so there will be some "stress" on their personal balance sheets.

Cons situation at Newcastle is slightly different, he takes the same view with his rent as he does with his players super and has zero credibility with the EAS Trust (or whatever they are called).

Football clubs are always in dodgy financial positions - in the UK, Southampton are the latest casualty.

Whilst we may moan about the lack of highly paid players etc, the prudence our owners show will pay off in the long term

Alot of assumptions though midfielder. Will be easiest to simply wait and see the tv ratings for australia in the world cup on sbs. These ratings should be close, though i presume the matches will be at night/morning again, so may be a bit lower. Big roos matches at home certainly have the ability to be the highest rating show on australian television on fta any particular year, and will become so.
