ccmfans.net is the Central Coast Mariners fan community, and was formed in 2004, so basically the beginning of time for the Mariners. Things have changed a lot over the years, but one thing has remained constant and that is our love of the Mariners. People come and go, some like to post a lot and others just like to read. It's up to you how you participate in the community!

It only takes a few minutes, and joining will let you post your thoughts and opinions on all things Mariners, Football, and whatever else pops into your mind. If posting is not your thing, you can interact in other ways, including voting on polls, and unlock options only available to community members.

ccmfans.net is not only for Mariners fans either. Most of us are bonded by our support for the Mariners, but if you are a fan of another club (except the Scum, come on, we need some standards), feel free to join and get into some banter.

Nobody Likes Us and We Don't Swear

With the Active Bay 'talking' (I don't quite know how a bay can talk) about attracting young kids here is my suggestion on a chant to deal with the perceived problem of swearing. It would be something unique and remarkable if the Bay was able to achieve voluntary non-swearing status, (Swearing being a lazy way of expressing emotion), but the Mariners is a unique and remarkable club.
After a life-time of swearing I gave it away six years ago; you would be surprised how rarely swear words are needed.

As you wrote, an Active Bay can't talk. But for the same reasons I don't think they can't achieve voluntary non-swearing status either. But having such a chant in our repertoire can't hurt I suppose. However it would be hypocritical to sing it while still supporting the "F@%k the Jets and the FFA" chant. Somehow I can't see the Bay dropping that one!

Bay 16 does quite a good job at keeping the swearing to a minimum in a collective sense. But over the years there have been some extraordinarily foul-mouthed individuals in the bay. I'm no 'shrinking violet', having enjoyed launching the occasional expletive in the direction of an opposing fan/player/official/team, but some fans and groups of fans have been totally abhorrent.

Last year was the worst. With a group of about 4-5 young adults three-quarters of the way up Bay 16 leading the way. And the officials take no action whatsoever. Some of these 'potty mouths' are also seriously unhinged, drugged, drunk, or possibly a combination of all three, so attempting to stop them as an individual would be very risky.

I think the best way to police swearing as a group would be to sing/play our regular songs over the top of the perpetrators and just drown them out. The unhinged ones thrive on the attention they get. Quickly drowning them out with a chant/or a tune from the band would quickly starve them of the attention they seek and pass the message that it's not 'cool' to swear in front of kids.

Oh, the guys I posted about after the derby last season:
Unfortunately there were loads of pissed idiots in the bay tonight. There were some immediately behind me who were so pissed at the start of the game that they could barely keep a hold of their beer cups and kept on pouring it over their own shoes and it'd splash onto us.

They were relatively harmless; the guys yelling random shit in the middle of songs and otherwise just shouting abuse along the lines of "f**k off Newcastle you faggot c**ts" and "f**k off Heskey you black abbo c**t"* should've stayed home in their caves where they belong.

*I didn't hear this personally, my sister did and she pulled one of them up, and he said he was "just commenting on the game". Complete oxygen thief.

Football & Alcohol & shit refs = Swearing.

While I see the point & admire your abilities I just don't see it happening. Sorry

If you want to attract young kids, why not set up a separate active bay for them. The parents would not have to be worried. They could learn the more mellow chants and you could even have some sort of call and response stuff between them and the main active bay. That could be cool. Young kids would be itching to be involved.
Then when they're older they know most of the chants and will fit into the main active area seamlessly.

Just an idea.
