Newcastle Permanent commits $125,000 to Schools Program

The Central Coast Mariners will today receive $125,000 from Newcastle Permanent Building Society to launch a new Community Football program to Central Coast primary schools.

The new program named Newcastle Permanent Mariners Active is available to all Central Coast Primary schools from the beginning of term four and will focus on encouraging children to participate in playing and enjoying football.

Newcastle Permanent CEO Terry Millett said the program is a great addition to Newcastle Permanent’s portfolio of community sponsorships on the Central Coast.

"Newcastle Permanent is a long term supporter of Surf Life Saving on the Central Coast, presents the annual Christmas Carols at Bluetongue Stadium and is a partner in the highly successful Give Me 5 for Kids fundraising campaign.

"We are delighted to play a part in nurturing the development of junior football in the region and the Mariners Active Schools Program will play a large part in promoting healthy lifestyles to young students," Mr Millett said.

Headed up by Foundation Mariner and Mariners Development Coordinator Damien Brown the program is fun and dynamic involving groups of 32 students in grades three to six participating in a range of drills and activities.

"The Newcastle Permanent Mariners Active is a great program for kids to be involved. They will gain improved coordination and fitness, and for many it will be an introduction to football.

"We thank Newcastle Permanent for supporting this program and the funding they have provided will allow school children throughout the Central Coast to participate at no cost to the schools or parents," Mr Brown said.

The Newcastle Permanent Mariners Active program is available in morning and afternoon sessions during the school week.

Each student will receive a participation pack in recognition of their involvement.

Love the irony that a company founded in Newcastle overlooks the local team, in favour of one down the F3.
Says alot about the two community programs. B)

look on the bright side. no con soon methinks, local businesses might start coming back on track, and the club will probably find their feet over time.

frankly the most likely thing to follow is you lot winning the grand final or something completely infuriating.

I don't see all that much to be pissed about. Its not a straight out 125,000 to do with what we please, so really is not a sponsorship. It seems to me more of a partnership.

If Newcastle were willing to set up the schools program for football then they would have got the funding for it. Wouldn't help them financially just enable them to implement the schools program and in turn promote their brand. In fact if anyone at Newcastle was smart they would be enquiring if the same deal could be brought about for schools in their own region or part there of.

From what I understand it is only $75000 from the Newcastle Permanent. The other $50000 comes from a State Government grant. Part of this grant is a stipulation that it must go to a not-for-profit organisation.

I do not know how the Mariners will get around this given that they are a private organisation. It was Central Coast Football that brought the Perm and Mariners together and they were supposed be part of this deal. However, The Mariners took over the negotiations and left Central Coast Football out in the cold.

Expect the Mariners to partner a not-for-profit in this to access the $50000.
