Things have changed a lot over the years, but one thing has remained constant and that is our love of the Mariners. People come and go, some like to post a lot and others just like to read. It's up to you how you participate in the community!

It only takes a few minutes, and joining will let you post your thoughts and opinions on all things Mariners, Football, and whatever else pops into your mind. If posting is not your thing, you can interact in other ways, including voting on polls, and unlock options only available to community members.

ccmfans.net is not only for Mariners fans either. Most of us are bonded by our support for the Mariners, but if you are a fan of another club (except the Scum, come on, we need some standards), feel free to join and get into some banter.

Interesting... but I don't think we're that desperate for players... or a couple of grand?

Maybe as some sort of a PR thing, come in and get seen by the Mariners coach, best players get a certificate saying how good they are... but if we ever had to do something like this as a serious recruitment exercise...

As dibo already said, this is a development program. These kids get coaching sessions, Mariners gear, a season ticket... they are not paying a couple hundred bucks, doing a trial and then walking into the starting lineup.

Sure, this is going to raise a couple of grand and potentially find some future Mariners, but it's also engaging with the community which is great.

Need to compare apples with apples mate!

Saw this in The Australian today.Would be great however I don't know if we would have a look in considering our ties to Sheffield United.

Celtic open to A-League deal

SCOTTISH giant Celtic has said it would be prepared to become involved with an A-League club if the right proposition came along.
Celtic chief executive Peter Lawwell revealed to The Australian that the Hoops have had "several conversations with some people we know" with a view to the possibility of stretching the club's global tentacles to Australia.
The 42-time Scottish champion will get the chance to pursue the option when it tours the country next month, playing matches against Central Coast at ANZ Stadium (July 2), Perth Glory at nib Stadium (July 9) and Melbourne Victory at AAMI Park (July 13) as part of its preparation for the 2011-12 season.
While Lawwell said it would be a great opportunity for Celtic, which will bring its strongest squad, to build for the new season, the ability to spread the club's brand was also uppermost in the planning. And one way to do that was some sort of involvement in the local competition.
"We have had a couple of conversations in the past through people we know," Lawwell said. "But nothing really in terms of a (suitable) proposition has come through yet. It is certainly something we would look at."
A number of A-League clubs are struggling financially and would jump at the opportunity to link with such a historic club.
Defending A-League champion Brisbane Roar is likely to be one. The club is being run by Football Federation Australia after its owners gave up the licence at the end of last season.
With or without ownership involvement, Lawwell said Celtic, which has talent schools and partnerships in North and Central America, India, South Korea and Japan, still had a keen interest in developing talent worldwide and that the club had several young Australians on its books.
"We are always looking at talent and Australia has some good kids," he said.
"They are very physical and athletic."
One of the most highly recognised sports administrators in Britain, Lawwell was once on the radar of English giant Arsenal.
"Obviously it was a massive decision to knock them back," he said. "Arsenal is a fantastic club. But for me, Celtic is a passion, a way of life. Arsenal would have been a fantastic job and that's all it would have been -- a job."
Lawwell prefers to continue to grow the Celtic brand. "The last study we conducted, we reckon there are at least 10 million Celtic fans worldwide," he said. "It's difficult to put a financial worth on that but needless to say, Celtic FC is a huge brand."
As for the Old Firm rivalry with Rangers, Lawwell described them as "quite phenomenal sporting events". "If you see one live you have your breath taken away by the atmosphere. I know it also gets a lot of bad publicity but it is not as bad as some people like to paint.
"It is one of the greatest club football matches in the world."

Lawrie and Fergie would be spitting bowler hats and orange sashes at the idea of us linking with Celtic.

Perhaps a reason they are no longer at the club?

Just like Michael Corleone wouldn't kill Fredo while his mother was still alive, Mariners would not deal with Celtic while Lawrie/Fergie were still at the club ;)
