Mohammed bin Hamman says Kick out Nixs

AFC President just had an interview on the SBS World Game show, and he was asked what the A-League needed to do in terms of becoming more professional (to meet the AFC Pro-League criteria).

He advised two things:

1) Promotion/Relegation system.

2) To remove the New Zealand presence from the A-League by 2011.

If the FFA has to make the decision between AFC Champions League and Wellington Phoenix, I dont think it will be a hard one for them to make.

I mentioned that in the AFC thread..from what I infer, it's a FIFA ruling, NOT an AFC one. Which makes sense..Welling are in New Zealand who play i the Oceania conference...while Australia plays, obviously, in the Asian. Why have a club from one conference....one zone if thats better wording, participate in a conference from a different zone? It does kind of make no sense.

The promotion relegation is feasible as the competition expands in years to come. But should the Nix qualify for the ACL what happens then?

That wouldnt go down well, as the financial benefits would be missing, unless some compensation package was arranged.

I'm skeptical, although expansion of the league would mean we can satisfy all the Australian markets wanting a team- West Sydney, Wollongong, Canberra and a 2nd Melbourne side.

THat would be awesome...though we're a long way from being able to support that.

Though...West Syd, The Gong, a 2nd Melbourne club...Can-berra, Scumcastle, Darwin...would make a decent foundation for a second division...and yes...i vote we relegate Scumcastle forever.

Only problem is that Perth would probably always be in the 2nd division...based on form from the last couple of seasons.

Promotion/Relegation - cant wait to sing "going down" and/or "how shit must you be" to the scum.

Agreed, sheepdhaggers out, never should have been in to start with and we owe their game nothing

They are not elligable for the ACL.
They are currently stopped by the fifa decision above from playing in the ceania club cup.

The fact is fifa should have oceania brought under the asian confederation by 2011. Would be better competition for the small nations. Only NZ and Oz woulds= seriously challenge for the WC. But would bring more money again to the asian cup. etc

I dont think that it is unprofesional to have the nix in the league. Same way cardiff play in enlgland dont they? I dont think he would say the english leagues are not proffesional

Not from the FIFa ruling isaw reported. Fifa consider the nix an australian club playing out of nz.
The afc may see things differently.

sooner than losing the phoenix i would expect the OFC to be folded into the AFC, so the rest of the confederation will simply follow us in. it would do the entire confederation good - extra votes, extra influence, and more teams of that middling-developing standard to compete with one another and build in strength. solomons et al and malaysia et al would probably be on a par.

I totally agree OFC needs to fold into AFC.
Guess what that would mean in terms of World Cup spots?

Nothing but would guarantee OFC member nations a qualifying process against an AFC team and maybe a chance to go through against weak opposition in the early stages.

Would surely mean that one playoff spot between asian and oceania was just an asian spot

+1.
At the moment FIFA view the AFC as getting 4.5 spots and the OFC .5 in the WC.

The 1 spot is neither Asia's or Oceania's at the moment, but obviously FIFA view the AFC as the superior Conference as they allow the 2 3rd placed teams in the final Groups to play off for the right to take on the Oceania nation for another WC spot. So in FIFA's eyes, Asian 5th place nation = Oceania winner.

Bringing in the OFC members into the AFC fold, SHOULD give the AFC 5 WC spots.

With the booming China, efforts to try and get India involved too, and the Asian region growing Football-wise, there's a  good argument for that to happen too.
