ccmfans.net is not only for Mariners fans either. Most of us are bonded by our support for the Mariners, but if you are a fan of another club (except the Scum, come on, we need some standards), feel free to join and get into some banter.

Mariners Schedule Scandal

Ok, as many would know, sadly we don't see the Mariners for another 18 days now. With only one chance to see them live at the SFS in the next 6 weeks. While this is far from ideal and potentially damaging to crowds and team performances. I can cope with that for a genuinely re-turfed Bluetongue.

However, we are now also only 3 games out from a scheduling run that has me truly scared for our side and its ambitions this year.

For those who haven't looked at their match day calendars, from the 13th of November we will be playing five games inside two weeks. With the fifth game of the ordeal our away derby against the jets. This also includes another trip to NZ among the fixtures.

I think it's always important to be positive... but how you can hope to play that many games and be competitive and not sustain significant injuries, with a squad of less than 23 players is something I'm struggling with.

I'm genuinely concerned this schedule could destroy our very promising season.

Clearly it will be an Incredible test for the players, club management and support team - and obviously they must already have been working hard and will have planned for how they are proposing to cope... But I'm hoping to have my concerns abated somewhat by everyones thoughts on the man management and logistics of how we would probably be looking to cope with something like this.

So please discuss.

Cheers

You're right... 5 games in 2 weeks is pretty abysmal in the scheduling department, an especially after hearing so much about NQ feeling tired after a 3 game run I wouldn't be surprised if Arnie puts our youth team out by the Newcastle derby. It will be an.... interesting time to say the least.

Thats the way the club wanted it. They made their own bed by asking for 3 byes during the re-turfing. Therefore they need to play games midweek to catch up. This is football at its best. You will find many clubs have midweek game schedules like this in November and December when the extra 3 rounds need to be played.

i hope that the first team gets a bit of rotation during that run, lets face it... between doig, hutch, porter and giving some youth guys a crack we should be able to give field competitive teams and rest key players

Below is a quote from Arnie, Cbowden posted in another thread

"Arnold is excited about the club's promising crop of youngsters, who he claims he's "not afraid" to turn to as the club faces a daunting 18 matches from November to January."

I say we just need a HUGE group to the Jets game :D
Always a good atmosphere there, and the boys would be pumped to see a huge turnout from supporters.
