Mariners Charged with Misconduct

Mariners Charged

A-League debutants Gold Coast United and neighbours Brisbane Roar have been charged with two counts of team misconduct in the wake of their fiery first round clash. Football Federation Australia charged both clubs on Tuesday over the all-in melee in the 87th minute sparked by an altercation between Roar defender Bob Malcolm and United's Kiwi international striker Shane Smeltz. And the clubs also face another charge for having five or more of their players cautioned during Saturday night's match at Suncorp Stadium which Gold Coast won 3-1.

The Central Coast Mariners also face a team misconduct charge for having five or more players booked in their win over premiers Melbourne Victory last Thursday.

Hey, as long as they're going to remain consistent with the approach I'm ok with it....though is there really that much of a need to come down hard on teams that pick up a number of bookings in a match?

Consistency is the big problem - remember our GF against the Jets, when they started a large confrontation but we got blamed for it?

Are they always going to charge both clubs for such confrontations now, or will they look at what role each club has played?

Why not issue post-match yellow and red cards for the players involved in such confrontations, make the individuals responsible as well?

What do such team misconduct charges mean anyway?

This has to be one of the most stupid things ever.....

They will just issue a fine or a caution.
In the end it doesn't really matter as the Mariners outplayed Melbourne and got 3 points and sit 2nd in the league.
McCabe and Turnball would say it is money well spent.

Some soft cards, I thought. I mean that one for Hutcho not moving back soon enough, what a load of bovine droppings.

Yeh, exactly. Is there a way a misconduct charge can be applied to Breeze for rediculously soft yellow cards?

Thanks Breeze.
FFA should look at why this guy cannot control a game and thinks pumping out the yellows (which im convinced is his method of tipping the scales) is the way to control.

What is it with FFA refs trying their hardest to influence and play a part in every game? Its apt that our showpiece match (the GF) is effected directly by a ref or linesman, it tells the worldwide audience what we have to put up with all season.

they do this all around the world, hitting up clubs for fines for getting x amount of yellows cards in a match, its no biggie.

referees should be accountable for poor refereeing, but it only seems to better some of their careers ; breeze

We're not exactly a team whose renowned for exemplary discipline - we've been hurt before by players unnecessarily getting suspended for stupid cautions - haven't we had one of the highest card counts for the last few seasons?

Hutcho in particular is one of those, and he probably picked up the stupidest card of the game; incidentally, it was probably also the most blatant yellow of the game (step over to a player about to take a free kick and stick your leg in front of the ball and you're going to pick up a yellow card, it's about as blatant a caution as they come, and Hutcho knows that.) - at least, that's how it seemed from the seats

At least when Jedi got booked he was usually laying the smack down :D

I'm just thinking that if the FFA are going to take action against numerous cautions now, then perhaps it will offer us an incentive to clean our act up, which will lead to fewer suspensions, which can only help our performance.

to get that right: the Mariners will be charged as they received too many yellow cards in the match against Melbourne??? ???

what will the fine be like?

actually, from my point of view, this is ridiculous. What's the purpose behind that?

At a guess it's an effort to reduce unsporting behaviour and reckless tackles, perhaps to try and make the game more skillful or something, who knows :D
