Is Usain Bolt the greatest Track & Field athlete OF ALL TIME

The dual Olympic Gold Medallist Usain Bolt has run 9.58s for the 100m in the World Championships this morning. Second place-getter Tyson Gay ran 9.71.

This is quite simply unbelievable.

If it clean, Usain must now be considered with the best athletes EVER. Up there with Jesse Owens, Al Oerter, Viktor Salnikov, Haile Gebreselassie, Carl Lewis and Michael Johnson.

We have the honour of seeing him at the Comm Games in New Delhi next year, against the world-class Asafa Powell and others. Be interesting to see what he does, and whether he really turns it on or waits until he waltzes in to East London in 2012.

9.58??? You have GOT TO BE KIDDING.

Regards to all,

AM

If clean (which I sincerely hope he is), he is easily in the Top 5.

Can he do under 9 seconds??  Could be interesting....

He's surely on track to be considered just this. I'll wait until his career is over before judging him

Hmmmmmmm whenever you see these kinds of performances you sorta half expect a new drug test to catch him out in a year or so's time.

If clean, brilliant. Bet he isnt though

If he was found out as a cheat it would ruin the sport for a long time, espically with the attention he has been getting and how much of a popular figure he has become around the world,

Its hard to think that anyone could run that fast without drugs though.

I believe because of his height has alot to do with why he goes so quick, he is one of very few sprinters that are actually that tall most of them are small and with alot of leg power

I wonder if chicken nuggets will now be added to the banned list?

Usain Bolt has run a NEW WORLD RECORD of 19.19s in winning the 200m Final at the World Athletics Championships in Berlin this morning.

9.58 for the 100m & 19.19 for the 200m?? YOU HAVE GOT TO BE KIDDING!!!!!

I ask, in all honesty, what will he do in New Delhi & in East London? Can he make an attempt at a sub 19s 200m? A sub 9.4s 100m? This guy just beggars belief. Christ, I hope he is clean.

Same here AM because he just lights up the track everytime he walks out. He is what athletics needs after all the US drug scandals.

You , me and half the sports loving people in this world hope to hell he's clean.

I was listening to some academic types talking about Bolt's feats this week.

Some interesting comments made about the Jamaican people being descendants of the hardiest slaves who survived the longest slave journeys from West Africa (usually the slave route went to the USA first).

Also comments about the terminal velocity that the human body can achieve with it's muscular & skeletal structure.

I suspect we'll see some better times but only by micro seconds from here on.

Maybe, in 20 years time we may reach 9.5 for 100 metres. And maybe 19 flat for 200.

I remember back to when 9.79 seemed incredible (and unfortunately, it was) and people said that no clean runner could ever run that time. and for a long time that seemed correct - inching down through the 9.8s, until bam - in the last few years there have been some terrific runs from amazing runners with bolt just the latest and most outrageous of a pretty *SPESHUL* group.

The 9.79 run by Johnson was filthy, he was doped to the eyeballs on steroids.

In the months leading up to the South Korea games, he was out injured with a hammy injury or something similarly serious. He was photo'd on the beach doing light running. Meanwhile, his opponents were gaining condition by regular competitions. He knew he had to catch up in order to be able to make the Final.

Johnson had a speech impediment - he stuttered. But this was made worse by the steroids he took and it's no wonder the guy was a  stammering wreck in Seoul, also I can recall the jaundiced look in his eyes on News footage at the time he was thrown out of the Games.

BUT...., Johnson's run did tell everyone that the human body could do that time, they just had to work out a way to do it legally!
