FFA to face 'Intense Scrutiny

Found an article on The World Game website about a Government review to " assess the structure, governance and administration of football in Australia". (Sorry not sure how to upload the entire article).

Seems like the government (at least Mark Abib) are taking notice of the agitation going on from clubs and fans over the FFA's running of the game.

That is not entirely true.

The review is not an effect of agitation by fans and clubs over the FFA's running of the game. Did you read the entire article? :yellowcard:

http://theworldgame.sbs.com.au/australia/news/1053780/Australian-football-to-come-under-review

The review comes so that football in Australia can be best placed to gain an advantage and secure its longevity from hosting the Asian Cup in 2015. When you read football there do not mistake its meaning as A-League.

From the article;

"After achieving so much under My Lowy since the first wave of reform, it is now time for Australian football to embrace further change," Schwab said. "Vitally, change must be approached in a similarly informed and collaborative process as in 2003 in order to entrench and strengthen football's long term place as a major player in the Australian sports and entertainment industry."

Now after reading that article take it all with a grain of salt because it quotes the PFA CEO not the independant party conducting the review or the government entity which ordered it. The PFA has its own agenda and that isn't always in the best interests of the game itself.

I HAVE read the entire article and read and listened to various opionions and comments on the Government announcement ie: The World Game programme on Sunday, The Sydney Morning Herald, et al.

I realise the enquiry is not just about the A-League, that is only a part of the equation, but I believe it is an extremely important part and the problems surfacing now need to be addressed, otherwise forget about getting a massive(or otherwise) TV deal to help sustain the running of the A-League.
I don't think Brendan Schwab, the PFA, the various fans forums and just about anyone else, including me, who care about our game have any hidden agendas!

The game needs financial help, no doubt, but there is no point in throwing good money after bad if all we end up with is the status quo! Let's not nitpick lets all sing from the hymn sheet (as has been said on many occasion).

There seems to be a lot of banter about the amount of wages that FFA is spending. Can't say that I disagree with this however it has to be pointed out that rightly or wrongly the FFA paid overpriced consultants to help us win (lose) the World Cup. No doubt this put a big whole in the budget along with the associated costs of entertaining/flying/accomodation etc that goes with bidding for such an event.

My hope is that now the bidding is out of the way the FFA can focus on growing the A League and not throwing money after nothing.

Unfortunately it wasn't their money they were throwing around. It was our, tax payer money that paid for those overpriced consultants. So unless the Gov. slings us another lazy 45 mill, the FFA don't have money to throw after nothing.

I think this years rego fees is the most I have ever payed to play football, ($355), which says something about the state of our games finance.

The $45million was a separate budget item. The normal funding is what is up for renewal. I actually think that we will see an increase in government funding. There is a lot better case to fund large paricipation sports like Football, Aussie Rules. and League than Modern Pentathalon and Synchronised Swimming.

Yeah, the lead up to the asian cup at home will allow the Govt to inject more money in the game despite the lobbying of the other codes against it

Yes, there is more of a case for funding large participation sports (and I believe the outcome of the crawford report recommended more funding in these areas).

However...the AOC (Australian Olympic Committee) has an enormous amount of political clout -and comes with the national pride and success breeds participation arguement- so I don't think any Government will be shifting serious money from there to us. I think our best bet is to just hope they give everyone more funding.

downside is we blew $45 million of govt money. Maybe Frank Lowy could refund that money since it was his hairbrained (read egotistical) idea to bid for staging a World Cup that we were never in the race for. That way we could ask for $45 million to fund the A-League programs we desperately need to compete with the J League, K League and even the Chinese Super League (which is of a lower standard than ours...but don't bet on it staying that way). We need to keep our young talent here not farm them out to Germany, Holland or wherever the national coach of the day hails from.

See the attached link from the Australian. http://www.theaustralian.com.au/news/sport/ffa-to-face-intense-scrutiny/story-e6frg7mf-1226093418025

Wonder what will come out of this. I bet one of the things that they identify is the the FFA has no succession plans in place for Lowy and that the power is to centralised at the top.

This is great news, but seriously... why does Canberra assume they will do any better at running the show?

I guess they can't do any worse. It looks to me like a lot of money has been shoveled into the game, and just blown by the FFA on stupid shit, like trying to "kick start" the game with the World Cup bid.
