Well done to everyone concerned here. Article:

Football Federation Australia (FFA) today announced a donation of $100,000 to the Red Cross Bushfire Appeal along with other measures to show support for the communities affected by the devastating bushfires in Victoria.

Everyone in the entire football community shares the disbelief at not only the tragedy in Victoria but the scale of it, said FFA CEO, Ben Buckley.

Our sympathy and heartfelt wishes go to all those who have suffered.

In addition to the cash donation, FFA will also provide replacement football equipment to schools and junior football clubs that have lost equipment in the bushfires, when appropriate.
Buckley also said that:

    * there will be one minutes silence at both semi-finals to be played at Suncorp Stadium, Brisbane, on Friday and Telstra Dome, Melbourne, on Saturday;
    * tickets will be offered to families affected by the fires and the fire fighters and other emergency services workers to the semi-final between Melbourne Victory and Adelaide United at Telstra Dome;
    * there will be cash collections at Telstra Dome and at Suncorp Stadium for fans to make a donation either to the Bushfire Appeal (Melbourne) or the North Queensland Floods Appeal (Brisbane).

Qantas Socceroos playing a 2010 FIFA World Cup qualifier in Japan on Wednesday, and Hyundai A-League players participating in the semi-finals of the A-League this weekend, will wear black armbands as a mark of respect for those who have lost their lives.

We hope that these gestures, while very small, can help bring some relief to the people who have lost so much and to the courageous men and women who have been working tirelessly to help them.

We want to let them know that everyone involved in football is thinking of them, said Buckley.

Donations to the Australian Red Cross Bushfire Appeal can be made at www.redcross.org.au

Blood donations are also required to support burns victims. Call 13 14 95.

Donations to the Queensland Floods Disaster Relief Appeal can be made at any Queensland branch of NAB

That's a great move.

According to the radio today, the Red Cross took over $6million in donations in the last 24 hrs.

Salvo's got $2m as well and that doesnt include the Lord Mayors fund that corporates have been pumping $$ into.

AFL & Cricket Australia have also kicked the tin

Just a thought but maybe the Marinators club could find some kids team in one of those small towns and have a whip round to buy them some eqpt?

Thoughts?

Would an All Star HAL side vs Melbourne Victory, at the MCG, with all gate receipts etc going towards rebuilding after this horrific disaster work?

Yes. Problem is, it'd need to be done probs in the next month or so, and the HAL finals then NJ/CCM matchday one ACL matches make it a pretty busy month. Given the Jets won't be contributing anyone, I guess the mariners could sit it out and prepare for ACL instead, and let the other five (six, if you count Smeltz at GCU) teams pitch in to make the All-Stars 11

Maybe someone could slap Mr. Fowler into action to guest-star :)

My Non-Melbourne, Non-CCM/NJ All-Stars side

I'm pretty sure if you asked the CCM squad if they wanted to forgo rest and/or preparation for the ACL to play in this match, you would get a resounding yes. And when I say "All Stars" I didnt necessarily mean the best of the best, I just meant a mixture from the other clubs, so yes the Jets would be represented in this case

I wasnt so much thinking for the warm up, as valid a point as it is. But more for the fact that as human beings they would want to be involved

We shall be wearing black armbands in the crowd on Wednesday night, and they took a collection of yen at the Embassy tonight (welcome function type thing) to put towards the cause.

I had no idea (mobile does not work here at all, I'm completely cut off) until I logged on here tonight that it had gotten this bad...... terrible shame.
