ccmfans.net is the Central Coast Mariners fan community, and was formed in 2004, so basically the beginning of time for the Mariners. Things have changed a lot over the years, but one thing has remained constant and that is our love of the Mariners. People come and go, some like to post a lot and others just like to read. It's up to you how you participate in the community!

If you want to get rid of this message, simply click on Join Now or head over to https://www.ccmfans.net/community/register/ to join the community! It only takes a few minutes, and joining will let you post your thoughts and opinions on all things Mariners, Football, and whatever else pops into your mind. If posting is not your thing, you can interact in other ways, including voting on polls, and unlock options only available to community members.

ccmfans.net is not only for Mariners fans either. Most of us are bonded by our support for the Mariners, but if you are a fan of another club (except the Scum, come on, we need some standards), feel free to join and get into some banter.

Every year

Seems to me at least once a year the Mariners have a game at Bluetongue washed out and rescheduled.

Seems also every year the 'experts' predict CCM to finish far further down the ladder than they end up doing, regardless of the season we had before.

Seems I can't think of my other examples at this time

Every year a piss-weak song is chosen as the team/supporters song and then is quickly ignored or forgotten by the fans

Every year Bay 16 has fewer and fewer supporters :(
Here's one that could open up a healthy debate/conversation.

Last season (not the one that just finished, the one before) the number of supporters in Bay 16 rose dramatically and The Bay was the best I had seen it in quite a while. Dropped off a little this year though.

Why do we think that is? What can we do to get more people to The Bay?

There seems to be a new generation of teens merging towards bay 16. Maybe a little coordination or participation could make them stay and join in.
Maybe a one direction song reworked into a Mariners song. Shoot me now.....please!

Theres a risk with the active ends that they can be a bit unstable in numbers especially for a new club culture to maintain. The thing i worried about was if the reaction in early years to the supposedly 'too active' fans might have killed fhe buzz of it a bit. Kids wanting to be kids and all...its what pushes active support along even if they step over a line sometimes. I guess thats a comment on sydney and melbourne fans dropping away a little from their peaks. There was never enough flares being ripped at bluetongue for my liking! Not that these are the be all and end all ...the school teacher vibe from security and authorities to them though was annoying in a respect.

Issue is Home culture is HHHMMM a football culture ... Other codes don't have Home Ends to anywhere near the extent of Football meaning many folk are not used to it ... other folk are scared by it... and many want it...

My two bobs worth are you need a number of very easy calls ... some we already like "" What a waste of Money""' some others could be the Donkey call when someone makes a mistake a huge EOR EOR ... get some drums it to help it spread around the stadium...

Also get a song most know the tune and is upbeat ... as an example [not suggesting this just using as an example] The Village People's ... You Can't stop the Music ... to Your Can't stop the Mariners...

But keep it simple only use the first two lines... then everyone can join in and it helps spread the word for those that may wish to join...

Song

You can't stop the music... to Mariners
Nobody can stop the music ... to Mariners

Latter more lines can be added...

However back to my point is the Home End thing is not the normal in Australian sporting culture .... meaning kept it simple and easy to follow foe people wishing to join it chants...

I personally think that Bay 16 was pretty good last year. If you can get the hard heads at the back to combine interact with the main yellow army then you are back on track to having a very solid support base behind the goals.
If everyone of the boys (and excellent female support) can get one extra friend to cone along next season, things start to snowball.

Every year we have had a muppet in the squad. Next year we have the potential to have none.....if Pelle lifts his game!

PP,

I think one area where you guys really excel is Tiffo. Maybe you guys could use it do a bit of active recruiting.

A big "Arnie Wants you In the Bay! See a GA picture complete with Uncle Sam's moustache etc.

Want to play for the Mariners? Join the bay. And become the twelfth man.

That sort of thing. I'm honestly not sure how you guys are perceived, but active supporter groups can be pretty intimidating and I'd bet more than a few may have considered coming over but just don't dare.

I can't speak for others but for me it's just the location of the bay. i'm not a fan of the viewing perspective at the goal end, much prefer to watch a game from the side

Middy,
I get your point but by Jesus u are scaring me with the thought of Village people songs ringing out!

heh, I've always thought the theme to Team America modified appropriately would be pretty stirring

Appreciate the responses guys, some pretty good feedback and thoughts in there... Though, Middy, mate I can't see myself belting out The Village People in The Bay. Ever. haha...

FP, mate that's not a half bad idea (and thanks for the compliment RE Tifo). I'll see what we can arrange before the new season.

Wombat, cheers for the feedback bud. I think this year, we had some good interaction between the kids at the front and the old-heads at the back. Might have been the stronger mega we pulled out towards the middle of the season, IDK.. Hopefully will improve again next year, one thing that does frustrate me a little, to be completely honest, is the big, empty space between the front of the bay and the back of the bay. What can we do to fix it? I don't know.

We've been through so many different incarnations of our active support groups and TBH we've still got a long way to go before we get it 100% right... if that's even possible, obviously some people hate certain songs that others love, etc etc. I had a thought that active support isn't seen as 'cool' anymore... ? Maybe could have something to do with the numbers in The Cove and BWB dropping off recently (their results aside)? This combined with FP's point about being seen as 'intimidating' (whilst conflicting ideas), could explain a bit?

The numbers that were in there this year will definitely be back, that much I know for sure. Just hoping we can get bigger, better and f**king loud(er).

f**k me, bring on the new season already.

Wom & P

I said """" as an example [not suggesting this just using as an example]""" HHHHMMMMmmm my membership of the " Delta Blues Association""" will be withdrawn if folk think I want the VP...

On a more serious note I think those in the bay do a good job and agree with FP... however back to my point a popular simple tune everyone where everyone knows a couple of lines hHHMMMM getting in over my head ... work calls ... so must be away..

Spent the 1st 2 years in the Bay, I now prefer to sit where I can see the game.

From an old Spirit supporter my personal feelings on the Bay is it is too much Bob and not enough Terrace. Ask an any old Spirit supporter (Ursus, Sacko or Kevrenor) what that means.
