I think caught everyone by surprise. But Pim must have seen something he liked on Fri.

Shows the dearth of central defenders and it is a large squad - but then I'd have to ask why the Ogmonster and Costanzo didn't get picked. Hmmm..

Most fringers will be for closer look, training and development.

i think the likely lineup is much like this:

            schwarzer
            neill  moore
emerton                chipperfield
                grella
garcia                        kewell
                cahill
    kennedy          holman

don't laugh.

might swap emerton for wilkshire, or put emmo in garcia's spot. if you wanted to play kennedy one out and push kewell and garcia higher you could swap out kennedy or holman and put in culina in the spine to stiffen things up. simon could be a wildcard, simply because he's completely unpredictable *and* he's certainly worked out where the goal is.

moore will make a big difference to the backline - neill plays much better with him there. i'd rather see spiranovic there because he's going to be there in 2010, but that doesn't seem to be how pim is working this out.

I'm guessing this is what you think Pim will select because why would you put Holman in there?

Id pick him over the other striking options in the list. Ive got a sneaking suspicion that Holmans the Socceroos equivalent of Matty Simon - when it all happens it's going to happen with a bang. Were talking a hat trick at Saitama kinda bang. Against Holland he made all sorts of dangerous runs and farked them up with donkey touches. It was giving me bigarse flashbacks to Matty last year. That same line of thought is what makes me think Matty himself is a dark horse.

I think Wilkshires very handy, but Id be more inclined to have him at RB.

I think Matty could get a run with Kennedy up front, as for Wilko ........ I think to bring into training camp and have a look at him and teach him a few things and then see if his A-League game improves is Pims idea. National team squad training  has improved Matties & Jedi's games, sure some because of Mariners coaching staff and some national squad camps what percentage each unsure.

Yeh Wilko will certainly take a lot from the train on squad.

It may be that he has an easier road to breaking into the team than Matty.

Mile is a walk up start especially after that free kick last week. WOW

I would love to see a team of all a-league player vs a shit national team it would be good. I think that why wilkos going to try and make him a national player as a back up but its great seeing our player getting reconised by pim. I hope they dont miss to many games though, hopfully now Owens and O'grady can com in and get a run wen there out.

              Schwarzer
Wilkshere  Neill  Moore Chippers
              Grella Culina
Emerton                      Kewell
                    Cahill
          Kennedy

Play this and attack like f**k on the wings and get crosses in. That's how we beat them last time. Emerton and Kewell will drive inwards, creating space for Wilko and Chippers to overlap which they both do well. Our last two goals were from Wilko crosses. Grella and Culina is enough insurance to cover those areas. If they keep up to 0-0 for 60 minutes, get Bresh on for Culina, send Kewell inside and attack with more variety. That will create space for crosses, which is our only likely scoring outlet against a team that will sit right back against us.

So good to see the fringe players being included in large squads. It provides massive amounts of belief to all those young park players who are going just like Matty a few years ago. Also makes the goal of a socceroo spot alot easier to dream about for young kids.
+1 for FFA and Pim.

Was at training today and Matty and Wilko were beaming with pride as Mile just took it in his stride like it was no suprise (Really i guess it wasnt). Find it hard to see Wilko and Matty making the final cut but the experience for them will be enjoyed.
Mile will be close to starting depending on Grella and Culina. If ones out i am sure Mile will start. He has been a standout this season and Verbeek was in the crowd to watch one man this last friday night and that was Jedinak.
