Things have changed a lot over the years, but one thing has remained constant and that is our love of the Mariners. People come and go, some like to post a lot and others just like to read. It's up to you how you participate in the community!

It only takes a few minutes, and joining will let you post your thoughts and opinions on all things Mariners, Football, and whatever else pops into your mind. If posting is not your thing, you can interact in other ways, including voting on polls, and unlock options only available to community members.

ccmfans.net is not only for Mariners fans either. Most of us are bonded by our support for the Mariners, but if you are a fan of another club (except the Scum, come on, we need some standards), feel free to join and get into some banter.

CEO gone, McKinna shifted to ambassaor role, Arnie football operations manager

"McKinna will move from the general manager of football to an ambassador role. The Herald understands coach Graham Arnold will oversee football operations."

Once again I am not a fan of and don't really trust the spin given to this article. In The Code Lawrie himself explained he'd probably need to reduce his duties now being mayor is taking up so much of his time. This makes it out like he's being shafted. who knows he may be, but from a Newc-ass-tle Herald article? Hmmm

. i am sure this thread is going to fire me up ... big time

. but in the meantime i will ask: 'what is an ambassador role?' ... my guess would be a role whereby somebody does a lot of work for you without getting paid - we already have those ... they are called fans

To be honest, I don't think Lawrie has done much "general Managing of Football" recently. Its a redundant role that may be valid 3 months of the year in securing signatures or if there was coaching changes etc.

If Arnie gains greater control of all football related manners then it may help him stay. Saying that it may also be worse once he leaves with a bigger gap to fill.

I think Lawrie more or less has been in an "Ambassador" role recently anyway. In Bay 3 at the GF, always being heard in the community on behalf of the Mariners etc. This is the stuff he will continue to do. Liverpool has Ian Rush as their "Ambassador" we have Lawrie, both club legends that love their club and push it wherever they go to the clubs benefit.

some change was expected too. certainly acceptable considering an alternative was to move to south melbourne.
with Turnbull as chairman still I have some confidence the direction will continue in a positive and appropriate manner

I'm with you Scoober... As fans, we shouldn't headlessly support any management decision because it's "the club"... But we also shouldn't oppose every decision, just because it's change. It is obvious that some sort of change is necessary, for long-term viability, I think we've all spotted that.
In light of that, I think it's only fair to give Charlesworth the chance to actually fix the problems. I also think that it was just a matter of time for Lawrie... He's indeed an excellent ambassador, but he's also the mayor and it's reasonable to expect that that work takes up a bit of time... At the end of the day, it's probably more important that he does the job he's been voted in to do ;)

Not too unexpected.

I admit to not having any knowledge of what it takes to run an A-League club. But I do have experience in an NSL Club. On that basis I think there needed to be some trimming of overheads to survive. If it takes seven staff to run the office, perhaps some of the directors must have been having a very easy ride until now?

Not sure how many staff are involved in running the CofE though.

Lawrie is well placed to develop our community aspects through his role as mayor. But it sounds like he was still keen for retaining a hands on role with the football operations. If so, it will be difficult for such a passionate club member to be asked to take a step back.

If it means that the Manager takes on the football operations, that's appropriate. I hope that results in Arnie being committed for another year.

The moves won't mean we love Lawrie any less!

Lawrie is the Mayor of Gosford and that job will always take priority over his duties at the mariners as it should, he's a great ambassador for CCM and I think that it has really been his role all along since he was voted in as Mayor. I don't see any doom or gloom in this announcement.

CENTRAL Coast Mariners wish to clarify media reports and speculation regarding the continuing role of foundation Head Coach Lawrie McKinna with the Club.
As the Club’s first Official Ambassador, McKinna will be at the forefront of the Mariners’ community engagement efforts, presiding over a range of events to ensure the Club continues to strengthen its bond with the Central Coast community.
In addition, McKinna will continue to complete some of the football operations duties that he currently fulfils. This will include the organisation of the team’s 2013/14 Hyundai A-League pre-season campaign.
Central Coast Mariners Chairman and Group General Manager, Mr Peter Turnbull, said McKinna’s shift to Club Ambassador from General Manager – Football, is in fact a subtle one.
“Lawrie is well known in Central Coast and Australian football circles and as part of our current restructure it’s true that a few of Lawrie’s football operations commitments will be absorbed by other staff.”
“However his input, energy and experience from a football perspective will naturally remain highly valued.”
Further announcements regarding new community initiatives and appointments by the Club will be made in due course.

You do have to love the spin, incredibly successful manager, who has already turned down big money offers to stay loyal to club duties are extended to cover all football operations what a scandal. Knowing how much Lawrie loves and puts into the club it would not sunrise me at all if this was his suggestion as opposed to the spin in the bogan herald.
