Also would include wilko over 8 game Doig at the moment
I was just thinking along those lines.

We need a rule of having played a minimum amount of games to qualify.

People should think of these things before starting threads imo  :p

Vuko
Vidmar Meggsy Wilko Heff
Travis Jedi Tommy P Hutcho
Aloi$i Simon

Subs Bozza, Boogs, Gumps, Mori,

Have we ever had a top quality, out and out right midfielder?
Sully, Osman, Owens, Elrich, Mcmaster all play that position naturally plus we've had Porter, Kwasnik, Travis, Weemac, Caceres, Tommy P, Gumps all there as well.
None of them have ever made that position theres for any length of time

We must've been watching different games......I think the security guard who waves the mariners through at the gate did more to help our performance than Elrich.

just to keep it on topic (trying to look at these players in their peak form, but it's difficult trying to compare some of their peak forms which may have happened years ago):

Vuko
Sully  Meggsy  Vidmar    Heff (early Heff, not late Heff)
Travis  Jedi  tommy P    Hutcho
Aloisi    Simon

Bench:  Mori, Bozza, Clark, Kwassie, Gumps

EDIT: -Anti-stupid people baggin out elrich comment deleted

Clark I had coz he was sort of versatile...and has played well. I dunno
Kwas- I had to average his ability, which meant the 2 or 3 spine tingling games get canceled out by the 40+ crap ones :p

Wilko ......Meggsy.....Vidmar[cap] ...... Heff
Travis---weeMac---Jedi-----Matty Simon [think he is a better mid than forward Ok right foot]
-------Aloi$i-------Mori

Subs: Bozza, Tommy P, Grump, Boogs.

How ever much I love Tommy P... Travis is a class above him...

Matty being on his wrong foot will do OK as I said I always believed he was a natural mid.

Have to leave Hutch off the Bench as otherwise all mids... if a striker gets hurt Matty can move up to the forward line...

naming players when at their best for us and assuming they'd all work well together is difficult. also some players were good at one time, the competition has moved upwards though... some players have to be named for how they were in the competition as it was then.
i'd go:

          vukovic
wilko vidmar meggsy heff
travis mile weemac hutchinson
        aloisi simon

bench: petrie, gumprecht, boogs

notice that 8 out of the 14 were contracted with us in season 1? rose coloured glasses perhaps?

heff and hutch have to be playing the 'i play narrow, you go around and score while i hold shop back here' game that they played so well in 05/6.

simon's got to not be overawed playing alongside aloisi (remember aloisi scored a shedload before he crocked himself) and just work like a mad dog while aloisi draws the strongest defender. mile and weemac need to essentially take turns at bombing on and always have the spot in front of the centre backs covered.

the midfield generally needs to be aware that meggsy's very capable coming forward to pick up the ball and distributing like a deep midfielder - the closest we've had to a muscat or moore.
