Things have changed a lot over the years, but one thing has remained constant and that is our love of the Mariners. People come and go, some like to post a lot and others just like to read. It's up to you how you participate in the community!

If posting is not your thing, you can interact in other ways, including voting on polls, and unlock options only available to community members.

ccmfans.net is not only for Mariners fans either. Most of us are bonded by our support for the Mariners, but if you are a fan of another club (except the Scum, come on, we need some standards), feel free to join and get into some banter.

I'm getting thoroughly sick and tired of all the negative aspects to A-League football.

Whether it be Buckley-bashing, fat mining magnate petulance, old NSL snipers, security personnel concerns, referee f@#kups, financial troubles, and so on.

It's getting harder to see the good things about our game. So, for starters...

And that's just this season......

Overall we've probably been the most consistent, solidly performing club out of the lot, ever since we won the preseason comp before round 1 (still have the photos on my computer of Gumps proudly holding the trophy high as he walked it around the stadium!).

Let's not forget other achievements - When we brought Mori and Aloisi over, it was great for the league as a whole. Off-field achievements such as the great work we've done with youth, the relationships we've built with other Australian and overseas areas (which is a lot more than some other clubs have done), the CoE, and now this international football school that's starting up.

We haven't won a grand final and that grates, but our achievements and performance aren't to be taken lightly.

If memory serves, we only failed to make the finals once - and that in itself is a huge testament to our solid performance.

Yes it was a great achievement by Graham Arnold and Matt Ryan to get awards in what has been a tough year! I thought Mc Glinchey was unlucky not to make the team of the year.

I was going to ask for permission to use it over in 442 but some big maltese prick already beat me to it. It looks twice as good over there with all the haters eating humble pie.

Can you post a link to the 442 thread please?

I think the achievement of still being in existence with well documented money problems, but only running about $750k deficit, is much better that to support a club where the billionaire has thrown the toys out of the pram

I'm working down in sydney for a couple of weeks,so yesterday night I took the time and went to watch the friendly between marconi's PL side and the mariners. It was a game that served the mariners to field upcoming talent and players in need of game time.I was really pleased with the mariner's "improvised team" perfomance against the current PL leaders( played their strongest side in the 1st half).Apart from the well known musti(played well), pellegrino(inconsistent), hearfield(good), mcbreen(his usual), mc donald(good game),I was once again impressed with players like Sainsbury (this kid will be the best defender in Australia),Caceres in DM(How good is this kid!player of the match in my opinion)and duke(came on the 2nd half and did what he does best, scored the winner). When Caceres and Musti combined, it was like "football is easy" to play.Oates came on and also showed that he'll be very competitive. In the 2nd half mariners had 80% possesion and should have scored 3 or 4 goals.I believe this is another achievement and that's why I post in this thread.

Thanks for the insight - much appreciated esp re Caceres.

On Oates
He plays for the youth team as a DM right?
But I've been reading articles calling him a wingback?
I've watched him once or twice and was hopeful for him as a long term griffiths replacement (hutch to continue for next 1-2 years).
Where did he play?
On Caceres...no doubt talented and seems the pick from the youth, but is he the right type of player to anchor the midfield by himself? Maybe would be good in a 2 man DM...like how Alonso, Xavi, Pirlo have all played?
You've watch him more I'm guessing...

I've probably seen all the youth home matches.Oates played right wing back in all of them and was excellent.I can't see him playing anywhere in midfield. To play there, you must have vision and be a good distributor of the ball. These are not his strongest attributes. In regards to Caceres,I believe he's got what it takes to play either defensive or attacking mid. What I see in this kid is how simple he makes everything look.He rarely gives the ball away, his passing(short or long) is accurate, his technic is superior to many that are playing in the HAL and his work rate is good.I agree that a 2 man DM might be more suitable as this will allow him more freedom to be more creative in attack. While watching the game, there were 2 guys sitting close to me and they were talking about Caceres.I asked if they knew him and they said, "he played here for 5 yrs. He's a great player but mariners is playing him out of position. Here he played as a number 10,behind the 2 strikers" and continued praising him both as player and person.I think that if Oates,Duke,Caceres,Bradley, are given more opportunities to play up and gain experience, they will surely make a difference.I would love to see creative players like Caceres,Musti,Rogic,Duke and Birnie playing together.
