Things have changed a lot over the years, but one thing has remained constant and that is our love of the Mariners. People come and go, some like to post a lot and others just like to read. It's up to you how you participate in the community!

If posting is not your thing, you can interact in other ways, including voting on polls, and unlock options only available to community members.

ccmfans.net is not only for Mariners fans either. Most of us are bonded by our support for the Mariners, but if you are a fan of another club (except the Scum, come on, we need some standards), feel free to join and get into some banter.

Australian A-League Team

If you were to make an Australian A-League team now, who would you pick and why? Mine would be:

                              Vukovic

T. Elrich        Moore (c)      Wilkinson      Heffernan

Dodd            Culina            Burns          McKay

                    Brosque        Bridge

Subs:

Galekovic, Simon, Leijer, Sterjovski, M. Thompson, Coyne, A. Thompson.

The defence i believe had to include some Mariners players because of our defensive record this season and Moore is a certainty if fit. Midfield is a mixture of players in form and those i rate and i believe deserve a go in the Australian shirt. The strike partnership had to be the Bling FC duo as they have been on fire lately. Bench is also a mixture of players in form and of those players i rate.

Looking forward to other peoples responses :).

i dont agree with the whole 'brosque love-in'. has he even scored yet this season?

agree with you for most of it, a couple changes

                              Vukovic

T. Elrich        Moore (c)      Wilkinson      Heffernan

Dodd            Shroj            Burns          McKay

                    Simon          Bridge

Subs:

Galekovic, Culina, Boogard, A. Thompson.

(keeping it to 4 subs. if the real A-league is screwed this should be too in that respect)

                            Vukovic

T. Elrich      Moore (c)      Colossimo      Heffernan

                            Hutchinson

              Dodd        Culina        Brosque

                        Simon    Thompson

Subs: Galekovich, Kemp, Caravella, McBreen

Colossimo just gets the nod over Wilko and Boogs due to better pace in support of Moore so we don't get too exposed.

Hutch has proved his ability as screener many times over and can score - he also has gained some valuable big game experience and is more likely to get a job done than many players of a similar skill range in the HAL. Also allows Culina to be more positive as opposed to say Shroj, this seems to bring the better football out of Culina.

Brosqe and Dodd combinig with Heff and Elrich wide gives us a lot of pace and width that should open up good space for the strikers. Both these wingers will also bring others into the game.

Simon classic target man edging him in over McBreen. Thompson easily the most skillful Australian ball to feet forward in the league - and has been in good form. Deserves his place over Bridge imo. Also Bridge still has a less than brilliant work rate. Thompson runs all game.

Bench:
Galekovich, quality - not much between him and Danny atm imo, but Danny has the bigger future and so gets the start.
Kemp - great pace, been in excellent form, challenge for Heffs position.
Caravella - unsung creative playmaker that has impressed me greatly, his absence coincided with much of GCU'S slump - so gave it to him over Shroj - but in truth either would likely serve.
McBreen - Can change our front line two ways and his strength could cause real problems against the generally smaller Asian teams, especially if combined with Matty S.

I think our maltese international John Hutchinson would not be eligible to represent Australia..
No matter how well he is or isn't playing Sterjovski would walk into this team. And Michael Thwaite would have a strong claim as a holding midfielder playing alongside Burns (as Pim always plays two). And Tommy Oar (this year's Michael Zullo) should get a run; Dodd is in the worst form of his A league career
