ccmfans.net is not only for Mariners fans either. Most of us are bonded by our support for the Mariners, but if you are a fan of another club (except the Scum, come on, we need some standards), feel free to join and get into some banter.

would have to think USA will leapfrog us after their efforts in the Confederation Cup

Your right as they said in the release

...""" Six teams will improve their best ever ranking:

Serbia (13th - 17th in July 2007)
Australia (15th - 27th in February 2009)
Gabon (31st - 45th in January 1996)
Grenada (88th - 102nd in June 2009)
Montenegro (98th - 110th in June 2009)
Antigua and Barbuda (105th - 109th in October 2006)

Serbia and Australia can be overtaken by the USA. Gabon can be overtaken by Mexico.

Cte d'Ivoire will revisit their highest ever ranking - 18th, first achieved in August 2006.

The star of that show is the pink ball. Without it, it becomes quite an ordinary avatar!
As for who the lady is, i am not quite sure, but does it really matter?

Rankings, as we all know, don't reflect the real quality of teams. Montenegro for instance have a lowly ranking due to being Europe's newest team, yet the quality of their team is conceivably better than many sides ranked higher than them, such is Europe's strength in depth.

However, I'm wondering if anyone thinks a better system for rankings only takes into account the competitive matches played- but even that can be skewed.

The Asian WCQs definitely reflected the strength of the continent's teams more accurately than the last Asian Cup did- where Australia weren't the only "big" team to fail to perform.

It is almost impossible to produce a system that correctly lists the order of 208 (or so) football nations...
This news however is amazing! Over the recent years Australia has matched it with quality sides including the Netherlands, Italy, Croatia, England, France, Japan, Ghana, Nigeria, South Africa, Brazil, Argentina and Greece just to name a few.
I think that this news reflects the boom that australian football is going through and to be listed amongst the top football nations only gives us credibility and clout and the justification of drawing BIG teams for WC warm-ups and friendlies alike.

I think that's the line of thought... it helps our WC draw, our bids, and more prestigious friendlies.

We need to get as many games under our belt between now and the World Cup. Let's dream up who we can play eh?

doesn't help our wc draw

past world cup results, especially the last two help the world cup, and as we didn't qualify in 2002 we will be ranked low

Dream match-ups leading into the WC...

We have Republic of Ireland in August, Netherlands in October... Netherlands has qualified already.. Ireland looking good for qualifying.
Other teams that I have heard (or dreamt) as possibilities include England, Argentina, Italy, South Korea.
I can't forsee us having difficulty finding quality opposition, I think there are many teams who would love to play us.
