Don't think it would be wise to sign any of these players as I have not seen any youtube bids of them. Btw my mate is an u23 Aussie living in London. Plays for a pub team there, would like him to be added to the list. Pm me for his details etc.

That's smart mate no one in the list so that rules out Matthew Spiranovic, James Troisi, Nathan Burns, Bruce Djite, David Williams, Adrian leijer .........OK .......plus there are a number of players on this list who have been asked to play for other countries, Rostyn Griffiths for Wales and I am sure Greece & Croatia  have approached a couple of these guys as well.

Being in some of the clubs listed here says they must be reasonable players ..... moreover to me it shows Australia has a lot to do to keep its best youth I accept some of these players may never make into the first team squads but to be playing for Newcastle, Aston Villa, Reading, FC Nurnberg, and so on has some credibility ..... also the players I listed to  forzamariners I would welcome to the Mariners .

Yep

So because they play for big teams when young, they must be good, right?

That is 100% correct, and should be the basis of all Mariners future signings IMO ::)

i'm with bear on this one - names on paper and being at big clubs does not necessarily mean they are good enough for us

example 1: kaz patafta (benfica)
example 2: nick rizzo (liverpool)

Fair enough ........ but do you rule out the players I mentioned like Matthew Spiranovic, James Troisi, .......are you confident that in Australia we keep our best youth ....are you saying all these guys are not worth looking at .....that the clubs these guys play for are hopeless at selecting a good player.

Yes names on paper ...... but in my work if I see someone has worked for certain companies in certain positions it carries weight because of the company's past performance .... no different in football ..... I ask you who would you look at someone playing for Newcastle or Hornsby ...........I thing you are being a tad to judgmental and while many of these players may never make it ...... some already have ....... so yes I would bring some of these guys to the Mariners ....... further that many of these kids keep going overseas at such a young age say something about footballs past history in Australia  ...  BB has or is going to Europe to try to talk many Australian players, playing in Europe into coming home my guess is many of these names will be on his hit list.

In summary are all these players going to make it big time ...NO ... are there any decent players there ....YES ....... have any made it is some way already ...YES ... in fact at some stage into the future if past history is anything to go by this group will have a number of players in the Socceroos at some point in the future ... and I would love some of these guys at the Mariners...

Must sign off now ....... to many clients today get back late tonight or tomorrow

troisi and spiranovic are good players and will never come back because they are destined for bigger things

it is almost a waste of time looking through that list because:
- many of them will not return for a long time because of the oportunities and dollars in europe
- others are just unknown and the resources to bring them back to australia is large
- unknown quantities is not lawrie's style and recruitment is a risk
- most of them are just not good enough for an a-league club presently

Agree mate ....... must be quick starting to run out of time with work today .... but how do you know .. "most of them are just not good enough for an a-league club presently" and I know its not unknown quantities is not lawrie's style and recruitment is a risk ...... but I am allowed to play coach every now and then ....... remember at all times I said some not all and you remember we have four new teams needed in the next two years and maybe six on the next 4 years ..... where are the quality players going to come from.

Shit mate I better get back to work or not sure but it won't be pleasant get back latter tonight

why i believe that they are not good enough for a-league is because the highest profile players on that list could not get a run ahead of topor-stanley, wesolowski and zadkovich in the olympics and they are average at best

those better than these players will not come back because they are forging good careers in europe

what i am getting at is that the resources needed to scout these players, pay them a decent wage to get them out europe and to develop them as youngsters would be better spent getting three or four state league players who could easily do a better job

That point proves nothing. Olympics campaign was run by a donkey.

Young Aussies Update

Former Melbourne Victory defender Adrian Leijer came up against young Aussie Chris Herd on the weekend in the English Premier League reserves.

Leijer, 22, played a full ninety for Fulham reserves as they drew 1-1 with Herd's Aston Villa reserve side. The 19-year-old Villa defender almost played the whole game before being substituted late. By all reports, Leijer had a tough day at the office with Villa's Nathan Delfouneso causing him plenty of trouble.

Another pair of Australians came up against one another when Newcastle reserves met Liverpool reserves. Impressive 16-year-old Brad Inman played a full game for the Magpies while ex-Sydney FC shot-stopper Dean Bouzanis was on the subs bench for the Reds. For the record, the game ended 1-1 also.

Robert Stambolziev
, who reportedly wants to play for Macedonia rather than Australia, played again for Bristol City's academy side. But the Robins were beaten again 4-2 with Stambolziev not amongst the scorers.

At Heart of Midlothian in Scotland, 19-year-old Ryan McGowan and 20-year-old Matthew Park both played full games for the reserves side which lost 1-0 at St Mirren reserves. Park had an injury-time shot hit the crossbar too.
