WITH the Mariners about to embark on another AFC Champions League campaign, our travel partner Chifley Travel and Tours have once again come up with three fantastic tour options for fans that want to experience the thrills of travelling through Asia to support our team.
Each tour will be escorted by Central Coast legend Lawrie McKinna and will have exclusive access to a team training session plus a mingle session with the team. Each tour member will also receive exclusive Mariners on Tour merchandise and receive a ticket to the match.
Please read below a testimonial from last year’s tour to China:
“Our trip to China was an eye-opening, mind-blowing experience. Phillipa Sardelic of Chifley Travel and Tours designed a trip that was a perfect blend of football and culture. Our overnight flights were comfortable, and our accommodation was excellent. Our itinerary was packed with interesting tours and events, but it also included free time so that we could get out and explore our new surroundings independently.
Our group was diverse and harmonious, across a wide age range. On our first day in China we celebrated a 21st birthday, and on our last day we celebrated a 61st! Most members of our travelling party were Bluetongue Stadium regulars, but even those who were not Mariners fanatics had an amazing time and managed to blend in perfectly. In the short week that we spent together, we developed many firm friendships and vowed to go again next year (provided the mighty Mariners qualify for Asia again!).
On any overseas trip, there will be times when things don't go according to plan. When this happened on our trip, it was no great
drama. Our tour leaders, our guide and the rest of the group were so easy-going. Not even a crash into a height-restriction barrier on the Tianjin freeway could dent our spirits (even though it dented the poor tour bus!).

I would recommend this tour to anyone. Being a Mariners fan is not a prerequisite, but it certainly helps.”

I understand that those who went to China under their own steam last ACL paid roughly half the clubs package cost.

Good luck to them ... if they want to go that way. For me, I'll take the package and the added extras, like piece of mind!

Can anyone report back on what last year's tours were like? I'm seriously considering going this year (I say that every time) and I too would pay extra for piece of mind... plus the added extras.

I'm going to the Japan game. I have been to the two previously in Japan, went for 10 days both times and it cost me $2500. Accommodation can be cheap if you know where to look, there is an abundance of help to find tourist attractions and the transport system is second to none. No peace of mind required.
Kashiwa is a simple metro link to Tokyo, so its easy to be based in Tokyo for your stay.
Korea and China might be a different story, I can only speak of Japan.

As far as I know, those that went their own way ran into troubles at the game/s; crappy seats, couldn't get anywhere near the official tour stuff? Just what I heard but could be wrong?

I'd say it would be better to go with the official tour and get the benefits that go along with it.

I've been twice, Nagoya and kawasaki both on our own. Bought our own seats for Kawasaki but the club provided us with tickets for Nagoya, everyone was on halfway but moved behind the goals at half time. I've already hit the club up for tickets to this years game.
Tour doesn't offer anything else exclusive apart from a training session. Meh......

Just paid my deposit for the China - looking like 17 on tour so far! Japan didn't get off the ground, and Korea is wanting more starters.

. we are now officially onboard so that is a +2 (but not sure if we were included in the 17)

. it has just been a freak of coincidence that has allowed this to happen ... and i sincerely hope that it doesn't mean we miss any of the finals games

. yeah but that isn't the complete picture either - that's not all you're paying for. the 'tour' includes some additional tourist stuff ... three domestic flights, quite a few meals, etc. but the main thing is logistics are someone else's problem ... for our first trip to china (shit, our first trip to 'asia') this isn't exactly priceless but certainly worthy of a 'peace of mind' premium

Well Bikini Girl, I'm just starting my packing for the journey out tomorrow .. do introduce yourself by forum-name.

Should be a blast, though also nervous for a) my first trip into Asia/China at last, b) How we in yellow/navy/pink will compete with the 21K crowd they had last time, c) What my darling wife will do without me ;-) (heh, booked up for long work days, and mother visit)

You will love Asia, yes its different but the people are much politer than you find here....by miles.

Have a blast and if you can smuggle at least a point back with you, that would be great too
