ccmfans.net is the Central Coast Mariners fan community, and was formed in 2004, so basically the beginning of time for the Mariners. Things have changed a lot over the years, but one thing has remained constant and that is our love of the Mariners. People come and go, some like to post a lot and others just like to read. It's up to you how you participate in the community!

If you want to get rid of this message, simply click on Join Now or head over to https://www.ccmfans.net/community/register/ to join the community! It only takes a few minutes, and joining will let you post your thoughts and opinions on all things Mariners, Football, and whatever else pops into your mind. If posting is not your thing, you can interact in other ways, including voting on polls, and unlock options only available to community members.

ccmfans.net is not only for Mariners fans either. Most of us are bonded by our support for the Mariners, but if you are a fan of another club (except the Scum, come on, we need some standards), feel free to join and get into some banter.

ACL 2009 Final Venue Already Set

Whilst the whole 'neutral venue' deal works in Europe, it's a terrible idea to implement it in Asia, purely from a perspective of distance and geography, if nothing else.

Say we make the final (omg, I wish) against Sepahan, and it's held on Yokohama (most likely, it's the biggest football stadium in Japan)...... how many actual fans of each club would be there??  20 Marinators at most??  A few hundred Sepahan fans??  Especially on the short notice of "yay, we won the semi, let's book airfares for the the final that's in 3 weeks time now".

Asia is simply too big for this to work properly, you're going to have a stadium full of neutrals with tiny pockets of color at each end.

Home and away is the best way to get crowds dollars and t.v viewings. Double what one game in an empty staduim would provide.

I suspect the ground that hosts the final would need to stump up the cash up front.

The Japanese are obviously banking on one of their sides making it.

IF we got through to the Final, I was hoping there'd be an opportunity to host it if we had had the seniority within the draw.

An ACL Final could have been held at SFS - or a packed to the rafters, all yellow, Bluetongue. Would have been a  good showcase for the Australian public too, dammit.

The reason why the ACL final is being held in Japan is pure and simple $$$$$$$$$$$$!
The ACL is copying the format of the UEFA Champions League with incresed teams and prizemoney so we cannot complain. In terms of the organisation of the final it will be only one match therefore AFC could not advantage one team over another. The Japanese are pure winners with turning up to major sporting events and it will be up to the FFA and A-League clubs to bid to host the final as they do in Europe.
This is not a big deal really and people need to understand this is football politics at work. It would only become a big deal if the Mariners made the final but i know many fans who would travel heaven and earth to see and support the Mariners in an ACL Final.
Lets just enjoy the ride instead of whinging about something that is out of our control.

Ha ha, good one Forza!

You just wanna see half the men over 40 running to the loo in unison when that running tap sound hits the PA at the stadium, right? :naughty:

Given the Mariners record with rain, I wouldn't tempt fate by having a song mentioning rain as a theme song.

No no no no no no. It should be "Queen - We Are The Champions".

Just imagine... "No time for losers cause we are the champions"

I'm getting goosebumps already.

Cockerill or Harper, can't recall, mentioned at the end of the ACL final telecast that the decision for holding just the one game was still yet to be decided upon, hinting that there could still be a chance of retaining the 2-leg final format. The meeting of the AFC Executive to be held on the 26th of November will probably give the definitive answer.

They should keep the 2-leg format for one bloody good reason at that, there's NO 'underwater' rail system for me to go and see my team play throughout the Asian region, unlike in Europe where they CAN and DO catch trains to see their teams play.

We all want Singo to buy us a Yellow Submarine, a City Rail Submarine  :p

2 leg final would be great to see, especially at bluetongue, but im just excited to be in the champions league. Dont really mind how far we go, we will just be heaps better for the experience to play against top quality sides.
to clarify is it the same as UCL as in the top two sides go through from each group or are they keeping it the same as this year, with only one side going through from each group?
