ccmfans.net is not only for Mariners fans either. Most of us are bonded by our support for the Mariners, but if you are a fan of another club (except the Scum, come on, we need some standards), feel free to join and get into some banter.

A-league Promotion

I was thinking the other day that since reading from the cock that the next a-league season will start 2 weeks after the world cup, that the FFA should really use this.

How is the question?

I looked back over the SBS 20mil revenue for advertising for the world cup and figure that is the ideal place with advertising spots still open.

Why does the FFA put the money in and buy advertising time during the world cup on sbs? 4 weeks of constant promotion on sbs, plus from the sounds of it up to 6 months before the world cup. Advertising to large audiences already watching football.

Not with some dodgy artsy add we always have. Show classic goals, heavy tackles, mad skills all from highlight footage. The way that fox show adds for the games. Show the fans, show the teams, show the players, show the moves and the goals and the saves.

Fox surely would not be unhappy about all the bonus advertising. Maybe sbs would not like to cross promote? If so why not work out a deal where sbs shows one match a week live? It would be worth it to fox if both stations during their broadcast show the times for the matches on the other station.

It would be worth it for sbs with the money, the chance to actually show some australian football, and the cross promotion. Hell it may even bring Les foz and the lads back on board.

It would be good for fox as it would basically be an advertisment for fox a-league coverage.

It would be great for the league because it would lead to millions of australian world cup viewers hearing for a month about the national league.

Look at what the olympics did for packed to the rafters. Constant plugs from 7 and as soon as the olympics are over, and people try and think what they usually watch, packed to the rafters jumps straight into their head.

I think it is a win win win scenario personally, and something the FFA should be looking into.

That one match a week and a highlights could score massive ratings post world cup due to the promotion, and just in time for the start of negotiations of the new broadcast deal.

Several reasons that i can see, jesus. The one above is bad business for a semi commercial station to be promoting the product, air time and ratings of a competitor for advertising dollars. SBS now partly survive on advertising income. Asking viewers to watch and increase ratings of another station is business madness.

This or any fta deal is highly unlikey to happen in the existing contract period and when & if it does, it needs to be one of the big three to reach the average Joe, as SBS average only around 5 percent of the Australian viewing audience. They may however be in the bidding market with others for content on the new diital channels. If one of the big three don't want it, or want it bad enough, SBS may well be able to compete.

it seems like the ideal thread for this comment
so here goes

that it seems to me this has been the most interesting edgy and unpredictable season.
i have the feelings now that i have only ever had in WC06 but it seems that crowds are going backwards, and the aleague is struggling to break through the glass ceiling that is the free to air media, which will be in the majority for a while yet. anyone care to critique or comment?
