Roar probably the only one of the three competing to have half a chance of being competitive. If only the Drive bys could lift themselves every game like they are playing SFC. It wasn't even a strong Urawa side.

Wanderers barely had a gameplan. How Popovic thought that Lustica would work as a winger after playing a total of two games this year is beyond me. They seemed to want to keep possession but panicked whenever a Urawa player moved towards them. Martinez is in no way a number 10 and just tried to dribble past his man and inevitably lost the ball because of it. Was embarrassing from an Australian football perspective that one of our clubs in the ACL could look so bereft of ideas.

Brisbane getting flogged in the Champions League and Bozza loving ripping into the A-League. Apparently getting rid of the salary cap will fix this, I highly doubt that considering we need to be developing players not just chucking millions at a few foreigners. This is the excuse Victory, City and Sydney have been looking for to scrap the salary cap, despite the fact that it's not the problem our player development is. It's no coincidence the years that there were basically one academy in the whole country lead to youth team failings. But this will be blamed on the salary cap and on how we can't compete for foreigners despite being torn apart be blokes on 150,000 or keep players, despite Victory doing that and still being shit a season later after they won the league. Reckon our time maybe coming to end depressingly.

Given the FFA has just advised expansion will not be for at least two more years as we can't afford it, Bozza can carry on all he likes about the salary cap as it is going nowhere any time soon. It isn't a surprise that WSW and AU and not competitive in the ACL just look at their HAL seasons. Roar don't have the money for depth in their squad either. it's got more to do with teams not being able to keep players after winning championships which is a cap problem but that is nothing new in the HAL's short history. Just watch SFC try and keep Ninkovic after this season. China is a world issue not just Australia, the Middle East have been paying good money for Aussie players for ever so this is nothing new. Another meaningless Bozza rant, it's good he gets no traction or we wouldn't even have a team after last year nor would the Nux.

isn't quite accurate. The Oz reported that:

FFA reaffirmed its position that expansion of the national competition won’t take place until the 2018-19 season.

In other words, as they've said, expansion won't be next year, but will happen the year after. No change there.

It's the rise of Wombats Thai's that is the most impressive, where way better than Socceroos and should have won, played well against Roar and are now top of the group.

Releasing the salary cap will just make it a 4 team comp, not the answer at all and we've always been out financially muscled but Aussies fight against the odds

That structure will be used to muscle the A-League off of the FFA. The clubs and federations will have more than enough votes to make that happen.

The Federations and AL clubs don't have shared interests. The differing interests basically guarantee the AL's going nowhere until FFA leadership decides it's time to split it off.

If the AL is actually generating more income than it's taking from FFA, it's not in the Federations' interests to move the AL out of the FFA, or else they will have to find a way to fill the funding gap.

If the AL getting more from FFA than it's generating, then it's not in the AL clubs' interests to move the AL out of the FFA, or else they will have to find a way to fill the funding gap.

At some point FFA leadership may decide that finances on both sides of the fence are sufficiently robust that a split is viable.

The salary cap is really very similar to trade protection - it's effectively investment in low profitability. However it has strong social benefits if handled right. As a lifelong fan of Oldham Athletic AFC, I can see quite clearly what unfettered capitalism does to small clubs. The business of sport is advertising, and advertising is what pays the salaries of Bosnich, Rudan etc, so their interest is unassailable brands, and you only get that if you take off the levellers.
I get kind of frustrated at how shitty the ACL is as a product in Australia, but it seems clear the public isn't interested. Would they be more interested if Bling's front 3 were Brazilian second stringers?

I do to, it's a great tournament but we really do give it little, especially when it stuffs up our finals games.

I'd guess it's a cultural thing, we just don't care much about Asian players. There is a similar stigma to the WC qualifying as fans just don't turn up to watch such important games (although prices are expensive as well).

I enjoyed the ACL when we were part of it and was good to see the skill elsewhere as well as how good we were with limited budgets.

BRISBANE Roar have been fined more than $A17,000 for breaking strict regulations around AFC Champions League matches — including a failure to provide adequate meals to referees and match officials.

The sanctions, handed down by the Asian Football Confederation on Friday night, are for two separate breaches of protocol relating to the Roar’s home clash with Japanese side Kashima Antlers at Suncorp Stadium in April.

The Roar were fined US$3,000 ($A4,027) for letting two photographers onto the field of play without AFC permission and a further US$10,000 ($A13,424) for not properly feeding a six-person AFC delegation.
