Just gout this email from CCM

"Central Coast Mariners wish to alert its members that the Club has parted ways with former Hyundai A-League star Patrick Zwaanswijk as its Foxtel National Youth League (NYL) Head Coach for the 2014/15 season.

Zwaanswijk, who enjoyed three stellar seasons for the Club as a player between 2010 and 2013, took charge of the Mariners’ NYL side following his retirement from a long and illustrious professional playing career last year.

However, with the Club currently undertaking a review and revamp of its youth football structure, the decision has been made to create a new and more comprehensive youth development position under the title of Head of Youth Football.

The Club’s Head of Youth Football will be responsible for the coaching and development of the Mariners’ Foxtel NYL team, oversee the Club’s youth scouting network, and take charge of the Club’s Academy pathway as technical director.

The Club will seek to fill the position of Head of Youth Football as soon as possible, however only after a thorough recruitment process.

Central Coast Mariners thank Patrick Zwaanswijk for his services to the Club over the past four years."

Some big calls being made on the Football side of things ... Marco being let go .. Dutchie was held out to be our next coach Phil... if we add this to some big calls being made by the back office ... ie increase sales staff, move two games away ...

The article does say we will restructure our juniors ... as I said some big calls being made..

as top a fella as Zwaanje is ...his strike rate with the yoof team was abysmal....people said to me during the year...."its o.k, they dont have a table in the yoof comp, wins and loses are moot" I dunno what that means...all I know is you got to be seen to be succesful, and his figures indicate that he wasnt even close...

The people you were talking to are idiots. There's no longer a finals series but there's certainly a table and there's a league trophy (that we've won twice).

This worries me.

Could we be dismantling the 'Arnie era'? Whatever happened to the 'if it's not broken don't fix it' approach? The Mariners have been hugely successful on the park during the last 10 years, especially with bringing youth through the system. So it will be interesting to see if this new plan is a step forward. To lose someone of Patrick's charisma and playing background is a real shock. If he was dumped because of NYL table position we've got our priorities seriously wrong. Dread the thought. but I'm sure another A-League club - Scum FC, or Smurfs FC, or DriveBy FC will snap him up in some capacity. Or is Patrick heading back to Tulipland? If he is leaving to pursue a TV career, that would make sense. As Dibo says, he is very good in that. Not that Harper is someone worth comparing to. A Simon Hill\Patrick combo would be awesome.

In Mossy we trust?

What ever happens to the Mariners, Patrick's Grand Final goal, and his time on the Coast will NEVER be forgotten.

Patrick will always be remembered as one of our very best. Seemed like a great guy too but good players don't always make good coaches and maybe it is for the best. As a club that will always have to compete against clubs with bigger budgets, and to stay financially viable, we HAVE to be the best at identifying and developing youth. Hopefully whoever comes in is the right man for the job. Good luck Zwanny, I hope it is to Foxtel as he'll be great at that.

Maybe soemone with more knowledge of the NYL team can comment but weren't we really young & half the team were playing for the seniors or injured?

Interesting none the less. Was his job to teach them or win or both.

Did he retire while still under a playing contract & a job was found for him to get him off the salary cap (don't know but feels weird after just one season)

Is it a sign that loosing is not acceptable at the mariners?

If this is solely a football decision and Phil Moss has input to it then I am happy enough. Patrick will be a legend for ever on the Coast and we will all remember his goal in the Grand Final but as John Aloisi can attest, great memories don't always make for great coaches.
Walmsley is available isn't he?

1) I actually have heard very good things about Patrick in terms of his understanding of the tactical side of the game. He was highly rated...intelligent.
So I am a bit surprised...

2) Postecoglu struggled with youth coaching (in comparison to his excellent senior record)...so that's some food for thought.
Some are better suited to youth football (Ian Crook?) and some are the other way around? Obviously some suck at both :p

3) I would LOVE to know what the situation was behind the scenes...

Goodo.

Had a chat with a fella in the know (Ha! I've always wanted to say that!) and he reckons we're basically focussing on playing kids but playing them in what is 100% recognisable as the CCMFC style regardless of what the scoreboard says. That will mean that we might struggle a little bit in the short term, but over time these kids will develop into our style of play and be ripe to slot into our senior squad. Once it clicks I'm sure results will come too, but they're not coming through borrowing senior players, they're coming through playing kids.

I wonder whether this was just an assumption...or if it was the official thought process of our management...

I doubt it.
1) I assume Patrick was on contract...so he will be paid until his contract ends (maybe it was end of May or end of June)
If he wasn't tied to a contract...then congrats to our mgt. for a great piece of business...but I honestly think Patrick would be too smart for that
2) I hope we are going to try and bring in his replacement ASAP. Mid June maybe...so I doubt we will save much if anything on the wage bill.
The sooner the replacement arrives, the better for our youth.
Unless Moss is happy to take them under his wing in the mean time (since it is only "off season")
